I was wondering what he'd do with it, with no analog stations left... but then at 45:45 he says he's using a digital converter. Surprisingly good picture, considering he didn't even re-cap it!

Yeah by the look of it that TV fell off a table way back and someone tried to fix the audio with a new tube. I'd say it was before the picture tube was all used up. He did get a great picture out of it. LA seems to have a sh*t ton of OTA channels..
That last bit on re-caping your 80's and 90's car computer was good too.

There's a great vintage TV forum on Facebook (probably more than one). Guys are restoring sets from the 40s and 50s, and yes, then color into the 60s. It's sort of doing what I am doing now with reel to reel tape decks. Lots of cool units out there in great shape.

Ya no, I have a different plan. Instead of replacing the caps, I'mma replace the car.  Except supply chains and various SHTF have pushed my delivery date back 6 months. So far.

With the RTR decks, I am buying capacitors by the 100 lot. Had a high end Tascam that I'd put brand new heads into (8 track multitrack). I accidentally left it on overnight, and lost all playback the next morning. Recording was fine, but no audio output. 3 hours later, I finally found 3 capacitors in the audio muting section with ESRs of 100-450 ohms.
Working on restoring these old 40-60 year old machines give me great joy.
