Hi all,

A got a Cine7 from a friend. I turned it on and found out it doesn't work. I noticed that the SF red LED was on. I changed the power supply and quad from another unit, however it's not the same R764202 (708) vs. R7627675 (Cine 7) The unit turned on, no SF LED or any other red LED, however it still shuts down after 3 tries. I can see scanning lines on the top of each tube, maybe 10% to 20% of the tube faces.

Any Ideas?

The power supplies are unique, the quadrupler is universal. Since you're getting the scan lines, the quadrupler is OK. I've had the RGB input board cause scan fail, as well as the deflection board. Likely you'll need to troubleshoot the boards, as Cine 7 boards are hard to come by.

Hi Curt, Thanks for the reply.

I did a lot of board changing and found out it was the RCU Controller board bad. Also I found out why the PSU failed, see attached images. The focus wire was shorting against a resistor on the focus board.

Couple of questions:
* Projector works now however I get a high voltage tick now and then, what could be causing that?
* You said that the quadruplers are universal but in your layout section (http://www.curtpalme.com/Barco701_Layout2.shtm) you said "you cannot interchange the old and new style. The HV section will go up in smoke after 45 minutes of seemingly normal operation."
* What is the correct quadrupler for this projector (Cine 7, February 2004 Build)? It had a R763583 fitted
* Why can't the two different power supplies (R764202 Cine 7 and R7627675 708) be interchanged?

run the pj with just the blue for a while (disconnect the hv cables of green and red)
afterwards the green and the red.

you`ll probably have to replace one of the hv cables (curt had stock Wink )

before you do this clean the hv cables from the tubes and the hv cable coming from the hv power supply with ethanol to rule out dirt.

Cut that focus lead off, then solder the undamaged lead to the pin inside that rubber boot. No need to replace the cable or quad.

The new quads (762717, 762833 and 763583 (that's a new number on me for the Cine 7!)

The new style quads cause oscillation with the old style EHT boards, usually causing the output transistor/MOSFET to short out after a short period of time. The old style quad (7622091, 761XXX (can't remember the part number offhand) can be used in any BArco projector, providing that it fits.

Also, the new style quads ended up being more unreliable overall than the older ones, due to the potting compound going conductive after 10-15 years. I use the old style whenever possible.

Thanks for the replies,

So can you interchange the two different power supplies (R764202 Cine 7 and R7627675 708) Looking at the design of the two power supplier, the Cine 7 one has power factor correction.

Also the cine 7 I have is a Cine 7 LT, what makes it a LT? (LT meaning lower scanner frequency) Looking at the part numbers of the boards they are all the same as a regular Cine 7, the only difference I can see between a Cine7 and a Cine 7 LT is the EEPROM is different on the RCU board.

No idea, all you can do is try it.
