Hi everyone,
I'm looking to buy a CRT projector but can't decide what to go for. I have a friend who is selling a Marquee 9500LC (non ultra) which is available now. Alternatively I can't decide if I should wait and search for a Barco 909/Cine 9. My thoughts are that if I'm going to spend money on a CRT projector I may as well go for the best.
Will the the image quality from the Barco visibly better than the marquee? I'll mainly be using it for displaying 1080p content.
Does anyone know of any Barcos for sale in the UK?
Thanks.

I've got a couple of 909s for $1500 USD if you're interested, with parts to back them for 10 + years.
The 909 is sharper due to more astig and focus zones, although the Marquee with HD10E or HFQ900 lenses, and LUG tubes isn't a slouch either. Finding the late model Marquees with the above specs though is tougher, whereas the BArco 909s came stock with them. I'd suggest the Barco.

Both are top notch CRT projectors.
The important question is: How familiar are you with either in order to optimize the setup? How familiar are you with CRT projectors? How many have you set up?
If you have no experience with either or have never set up a CRT projector, it won't matter which is (technically) better. The differences are minor and only people that are very experienced in getting into the guts of either to optimize the setup will be able to eek out any performance differences.
For an example of the depth I mean, I put together this quick Barco setup guide that applies to most models including the 909:
http://www.curtpalme.com/Barco_Setup_Quick_Reference_Guide.shtm
Unless that's the depth you're getting in to, don't worry about the models and differences as the shortcomings in setup will greatly overshadow any "on paper" specification differences between the two you're asking about.
To use an analogy: It's like asking which is the better racecar between the Koenigsegg Agera R and the Bugatti Veyron. If you've never sat a car before or driven manual, it won't make an ounce of difference which vehicle may technically be "better" as you'll never be able to pull out anywhere near the performance limits of the vehicle anyway.
As Curt mentions support is important too - what is the plan if something fails? Are you able to fix it? Do you have a source for parts for the Marquee 9500LC?
Good luck!
Kal

Thanks for the replies.
It will mainly be something to play around with so I'm keen to learn how to get the best out of it. I've never used a CRT projector before so I've got everything to learn. The closest I've come is the convergence on my rear projection TV.
Curt - I've sent you an email about the Barco. I imagine the shipping is going to be prohibitive to the UK though.
