Hey guys,

So I finally got the two XG-1350G projectors. They've been sitting somewhere on a crate for a long time and are covered in dust. I've cleaned them up a bit. So far I've only tested one since I don't have much space and they're hard to move around.
I opened them up and made sure there wasn't any obvious issues before plugging them in. The PCB's all looked clean and free of any stuff. I know I have to be extremely careful around fly-back transformers and stuff. They look like they might have come from UNSW (Uni of New South Wales)

So I'm not sure where to go from here. I've booted one up, got an S-Video signal fed into it since I don't have any other ways of giving it a signal at the moment. I don't have a remote for it, I really wanted to see how many hours were on the tubes.

Should I try and find a universal remote? There's a d-sub remote connector on the back and I'm guessing that for one of the bigger controllers that let you fine-tune it and stuff. If the remote input is just serial or something I could make a cable and send it commands manually or something.

Is there anywhere I can find out lots of information about this projector? I'd love to get a nice 1080P signal out of it.

Also is there anything else I should do before messing with a CRT projector that might not have been powered up in a long time?

Thanks for any info. I'm not 100% sure what to do with them in the long term. There's heaps I'll need to learn on them but I don't mind, even if I need to do sub-component modifications or repairs. I'll have lots of time this weekend to play with it, if it's any good it could see a permanent place... Smile

That green tube looks good!
However for setup a NEC the big service remote is absolute mandatory. Although you can control everything through RS-232 (COM) port from a computer. The control software is available from this site along with the proper wiring of the control cable.
I have used my PG xtra this way for years... Razz

Keep in mind that the control software is about the same age as the projector, so you better to pull of some vintage PC. Win XP (32bit) was the last on which I could run the control software.

Just fire it up, the XGs don't seem to have capacitor problems.

Making a cable now and I'll run XP in a VM and play around with it.

How do I go about doing line tripling? Do I need the Moome card or can I scale and then feed a signal into the BNC connectors? Not sure what to look for, hope scalers aren't... expensive. I'd just like to get the best 1080P image out of it. Sorry for the newbie questions... Smile

I know there's a lot to tweak.

I'll keep you posted on the tube hours if I can get this old software to connect to it. Smile

Ah okay so I can just get a VGA->RGBHV BNC connectors cable. What exactly do line doublers and tripplers do then? I'm guessing they double the amount of line scans the tubes do but does feeding in a higher resolution signal via the BNC connectors achieve the same thing?

I got the cable working and the PC connected. Still only playing with the S-Video input but I got a reasonable picture out of it. I'll have to wait until later tonight again so I can see it properly.

I guess that software doesn't allow you to read the tube hours. Tried everything so maybe I'll have to buy a remote Curt.

You will probably need some sort of image processor between the projector and your source device if that source is not a PC. If you are using a PC you can adjust resolution and timing to get the best image from your projector. There is plenty to read on this forum about video processors or Media PCs.
