My source to projector is as direct and simple as it can be HDMI cable from Blu-Ray player to HDMI input on my Marquee Ultra.

I like things to be simple and direct.

But the problem is, I have problems with raster ringing when using short retrace in the projector settings, and if I use
long retrace then I get other problems that are worse.

I need to be able to adjust the timings in the HDMI signal to eliminate the ringing, assuming that that will work, and I am asking for recommendations for processors that can do this, without costing me a lot of money along the way.

I use a DVDO VP50. Picked it up for a couple of hundred bucks. Works great as long as you don't want to go higher than 1080p@60. I use mine also for 817p@72. I have compared 1080p@60 from the player to the projector and then through the VP50. Could not really see any difference. They should be real cheap over your way now. Its also has a good selection of test patterns.
