Was thinking of picking up a reel to reel but know nothing about it. Where does the Teac A-1200 rate? Are they easy to service and source parts for?

If you get the 1200 for free, you'll do OK, but it's a very old unit, and you can do better. I have about 60 decks in stock at all times. Akais are super reliable, but of course every 40 year old RTR needs work. typically it's 2-4 hours worth of work to recondition one, and most found on CL or eBay haven't been touched in decades.
