Hi,

Some time ago I remember seeing a mod where someone (Probably Mike Parker Smile ) used mini coax lines from input #2 to bypass the relays and tie straight into the video chain. I can't seem to find it. Can someone point me int he right direction?

Thanks

God bless...
Mark

It's really not a difficult mod. The mini RCAs on the VIM and neck board are removed and replace with SMA connectors
and suitable length high quality SMA cables are installed. Alternatively you may opt for SMB push-on connectors and cables,
and in either case it is not difficult to find PC board mount connectors that can be made to work without much trouble.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I am actually looking for the mini coax from the socket pins for input #2 to the capacitor after the 2 sets of blue relays on the VIM. It shortens the signal path and eliminates the relays from the video chain... I heard it made a nice little improvement.

Thanks

Hi,

The coax mod You're referring to is visible on the third picture in this sales thread: https://www.curtpalme.com/forum_archived/viewtopic.php@t=37273.html

Thanks so much barclay66. So did you buy the MP modded VIM in that thread???

So I dont even have any rgbhv sources anymore, so I would like to feed the coax directly into the video feed right after the 2 sets of relays. Has anyone else tried this? Any known high risk of me nuking my VIM or PJ if I do?

Hi,

If You want to do this, then You maybe should remove the relays altogether. Use either Pin 9/14 of relays RL2/RL4/RL6 for connecting the coax cable. Connect the shielding on one side only (moome connector) and leave the unshielded part as short as possible in order to avoid any ground loop. Cut the RGB signal traces as close to the moome connector as possible or lift out the corresponding contact pins and solder the coax cable directly to them (You don't want to have an open trace still connected to the signal). If You don't mess up the board by damaging other traces, this mod should be reversible easily...
