|
|
This one is a bit unusual, and I know there's not too many NEC XG users any more, but here goes.
I sold an NEC XG system board about 6 months ago to an XG1100 owner. I tested the board here for sync and menu funtions, and it was solid. The customer gets the board, and finds that it works, but the point function doesn't work properly. If I remember correctly, it worked in one direction, but not the other. So I've been going through system boards here to find another one.
I run across a bunch of bad system boards as expected, and threw them out as I tested them. I did run across two good working system boards.. but the point function also is weird. On one board, only the 'down' direction worked, I could not get the function to work in the 'up' arrow mode (and yes, the original point board works fine in that chassis).
I then ran across a second system board where the point function bent the entire raster, but not in the way the point system is supposed to work. I also realized that one board had only the 'fine' adjustment mode, of the 100 zones per color, the second board had 'coarse, medium and fine' modes, so there's obviously firmware differences between board versions. All boards are the PWC-4063, which are expected to work in the non LC models.
Has anyone else run across this? Have these boards developed a quirk in the point menu over time, sitting here on my shelf, or are there firmware differences between various versions of XG non LC chassis that I haven't been aware of?
I am now going to swap EPROMs between boards, to see if that cures it, and have asked the client to do the same with his original bad board and the one I sent.

Earlier XG ...0-s did not have the three level point setting, only fine, later this was improved. I can't help much with the the actual problem, but I found that the convergence data are both stored on D-conv and System board, and if there is a mismatch it synchornizes. It would be good idea to delete all user presets.

OK, I've linked the owner to this thread, he may not have tried that...actually, yes he did, I got him to use the super secret password to initalize the board...

OFF: Actually what is the super secret password? I know about 315151 that works on XG ...2, but this does not work on my XG 1351, don't know about the XG ...0

Can't tell you.
Swapping the EPROMS did the trick between the system boards. That is the first time I've ever had that occur, that one PWC board isn't directly compatible with another.
