Is there a "go to" place online everyone uses for great deals on Home Theater seating?

It was discussed in the last year or two. There is a place near Craig Rounds. I think it is hometheaterseating.com that supposedly has some nice seats. Im not sure if Craig ever went and looked at them.

I picked my Berklines up for a steal from a fellow forum member. I'd definitely look for used, as the HT craze has faded compared to 10-15 years ago, and there's lots of good deals to be had on nice seats. Check Craigslist for sure.

There are still people interested, just not to the levels there once was. It used to be that everyone wanted/liked the idea of a dedicated HT space but of course not all could afford that or had the space for one. It was even a ‘show off’ piece that people expected you to have in houses of a certain (fairly large) size. That general public mindset has certainly changed. It’s no longer a priority.

Today the focus has shifted to home breweries. (Just kidding - that’s even more niche!) Wink

and reel to reel tape recorders.

Back 20 years ago, digitals were in their infancy, expensive, and looked terrible. Flat screens weren't even on the horizon yet. A true home theater was at least $100K at retail, and were the thing of the rich and elite only as Kal said.

thanks to the internet and the improvement of digitals, starting about 1999 (when I found ebay!), people could get that same $100K theater for under $10K thanks to surplus equipment and projectors. HD also became mainstream around 1999, and by 2000, I was getting 150 emails a day of people asking about CRT projectors.

With digitals becoming cheaper, and a flat screen being even less than a projector and screen, that's what most people are doing. You can now get an elite home theater at WalMart <sarcasm>.

For the screen at least, Walmart isn't a total loss. Most manufacturers are now allowing what used to be service-level adjustments in user modes and where there's a will - there's a way. Give someone an i1 display pro, a calibration disc, and a good set of instructions (Kal's calibration for dummies is an excellent post on the subject), and they'll even have a Walmart display looking pretty good.

My opinion at least, for whatever it's worth.
