Firmware updates are only to enable newer hardware features. So whatever firmware your Barco is running, is the right firmware to be running.

In the past I have found that Barco made changes in its firmware that affects things like the projectors ability to focus even though there didn't appear to be any change in the menu items, this may have been to accommodate different hardware versions, with visible improvements in focus. There are also things like IRIS which as you know went from version 2 to 3 without a change in hardware.
I am not comfortable that Barco documented and made public all of the changes it made to hardware and firmware or the effects of those changes.

This is the first time I've heard of something like this. Where did you see or read this?
If it were true, my same logic holds: If there was newer hardware then there would have been newer firmware to accommodate the hardware changes so whatever version of firmware you have, it's the right one to have. Replacing it won't do anything or bring any improvements.

Yes - that's true from what I hear. So I stand corrected: You can get something in software for nothing.  They added things like geometry in v3 I believe.
Now that said, you can always do a much better job by hand. Anyone looking for the best possible setup shouldn't be using IRIS.

Is it really so hard to believe that there may be undocumented changes or improvements from one firmware version to another? The projectors were produced over a long period of time and I am sure Barco learned a few new things along the way and we do have different firmware versions. Those changes in firmware may well have been to accommodate new hardware but as we have seen with IRIS and LIMO Pro not always.
Anyway I would like to find out so if anyone know the last Cine 8 firmware version let me know.

Features that would make a noticeable difference without associated changes to hardware? Yes. In other words, the ability for someone to load a newer firmware into their existing unit and see noticeable improvements I would expect to be nil, which is why I originally mentioned that it's not something we should worry about.

Why do you not like that they made this info public? Where did they make this public? (I've never seen it). Or did you mean you're not comfortable that Barco DID NOT document and make public these changes?
Again, in all my years in documenting this site and spending hundreds of hours scouring the internet for CRT content (especially Barco since I owned a BG800 then a Cine 8/808s) I've never seen them document any of this so I'm curious where you're finding this info. I'd like to update the site with whatever you have.

Its the undocumented changes that I am trying to determine. I noticed that moving to Firmware version 7.61 from an earlier version improved the projectors focus, Barco also changed the way the projectors memory operated without changing the hardware in this firmware version. I also know that features in IRIS and LIMO Pro are only accessible with the later firmware even though both of those devices will operate in projectors with older firmware. Whatever undocumented changes Barco made are just that undocumented and therefore not public.
You say that you expect no improvements when changing firmware with the same hardware well I believe that that is wrong. I am also looking at the best board and firmware combinations to see what differences that might make. Barco used the same part number for boards that are physically different like the attached image shows. Both of these boards are from the same model projector, have the same part number yet are physically different, I can't see that Barco put version numbers on boards.
You have no evidence whatsoever that Barco didn't make undocumented changes. Your only clue that you are relying on is that you haven't heard or found any information that there are undocumented changes to firmware well thats to be expected to some extent as they are undocumented and I don't believe anyone has really looked. It seems that anyone looking for improvements wants to make board modifications. I believe there may be hidden improvements in firmware.

Well I see the problem in that you should put your glasses on first and then read. What actually said was
"I am not comfortable that Barco documented and made public all of the changes it made to hardware and firmware or the effects of those changes."
You have changed the context of my comment by only quoting the section you have.

I am saying Barco did not document all changes it made to firmware. Your cut and paste of my words suggests that Barco did document and make public those changes. No confusion there.

There is no cut and paste error. As you said your entire sentence is:
"I am not comfortable that Barco documented and made public all of the changes it made to hardware and firmware or the effects of those changes."
You missed a couple of words. What you meant say is:
"I am not comfortable that Barco DID NOT document and made public all of the changes it made to hardware and firmware or the effects of those changes."
Those two sentences have the opposite meaning.
Hence the reason for all the confusion I had.

I can't believe we are having this discussion. All I want is a copy of whatever the latest firmware is for a Cine 8. Its really not your concern Kal. Having said that its your interpretation of my words that is at fault.

Err, no it doesn't.

No. That is incorrect.The two negatives do not relate to each other. The first not relates to you (you are not comfortable). The second to Barco (Barco did not). They are not related.
So that's why I was confused. I had no idea why you didn't like the fact Barco released details (which I thought they had not).
Seems we're on the same page now.
Or maybe I'm going crazy and have been having a brain aneurysm for ~2 days now. Can anyone who's primarily English speaking make sure I'm not going nuts here?

You are just plain wrong. Even if you have trouble understanding the original post i have made it quite clear what that sentence means yet you persist that you are right. You are not right and further its not your concern why i or anybody else might want something.
If i am not comfortable that something has happened then that means i believe that it did not.
Ask someone who understands the language before you continue as I am not comfortable that you are looking to bright at this point.
