I have a older Pioneer Receiver.
I've notice the sound out of my speakers is getting distorted, like a vibration sound. I looked at the speakers and can't see anything wrong with them.

Can something go out in the receiver to cause the speakers to sound weird?

yes any number of things, but one thing that is very common and something you can actually look for with the naked eye is swollen and bulging capacitors. Take the top sheet-metal cover off the receiver and look for this on top of all the little round "garbage cans"
