I purged about 1000 lbs today, and I can't see any difference.
Actually I can, all my tubes and lenses are now in one place.. the wine cellar.
I got rid of almost all of my ES focusing stuff, from tubes to boards, Barco 800, Sony 12XX, all ES focusing tubes, a bunch of used NEC PG tubes, a whackload of lenses, incl HD6, 145, HD8, 10Ls, and all my more-than-lightly-worn tubes, including 9".
Felt good to break a sweat, all i could think is how much shipping I paid over the years to get all this stuff to me. Go figure.

Too late, I dumped them all. I saved some CAB and CAG boards, and an H and V board, and that's it. No one has asked about these parts in 3+ years, and I posted enough times to give everyone fair warning. Ampro ES boards are next, this weekend, and I'm getting a box together for ya.

Damn! Oh well If you have anymore to toss someday, think of me!! Actually looking for a whole set of the boards that goes in the back cage (the signal boards or w/e they are called), and of course any tubes that are still usable
next time when you stare at the dumpster as you get ready to load all that XG hardware in there, remember to turn your light on and PM me
the cleaned up storage looks a lot better Curt, I have a few areas that look like your pre-clean pics myself!

I've really only saved a few boards of each for the XG, as it's really only the system boards, HV boards and H boards that fail. I've only ever had one video board in the card cage die, and I just replaced it.
I do have complete XGs here, and ditto for two XGLCs with minty tubes.
As for the red tubes, I had about 10 here, and with XG parts inquiries being down to one every 6 months, and most of those being 'got any mint green tubes for $25?' , something had to give.
I still have enough parts to supply everyone for 10+ years, but ES sets now pretty much are a thing of the past.
What is picking up for me is reel to reel tape recorders, esp studio service work. I have hoarded over 70 decks in the last few months, and am now working through them. Fun stuff, and some $$ to be made. All the Vancouver techs have retired or have passed away, go figure.

One thing that I don't get is, where is the tape coming from. Even back when they were more mainstream reel to rell recordings were rather rare.

Prerecorded RTR tapes were crap, just like prerecorded cassettes were back in the day. Used tapes are on eBay, and some, esp the quadraphonic stuff is going for stupid amounts of money, even though the tape quality is terrible.
There is www.tapeproject.com, who crank out 1:1 duplucates of master recordings.. but at a price. The high end audiophiles are all over the Tape Project. I actually sold a G70 to the owner, Dan, and I visited the place. He also owns Bottlehead tube company, who make tube preamps and power amps. Their showroom sounded amazing.
Once the shop is switched around to also cater to RTRs, I'll post some pix. Time to set up a biamped speaker system along with a 24 channel mixer..

I think that's actually Betacam tape that was discontinued. I don't know of anyone that has sold consumer Beta tape in decades, but Betacam cameras were a broadcast industry success, that went on far longer than the consumer Beta tape.

Ok, I stand corrected. Nowhere have I seen new Beta tapes for sale in decades though, and I thought we here in vancouver were pretty retro.

Just looked at the webpage. That is pretty cool. Are they sending customers your way?
