Hello all
Its been a long time since I've had the time to enjoy my crt PJ . Bought Star Wars and thought I would sit down with some popcorn and watch the first disc. Did not get 10 min into the Phantom Menace and the green tube goes dark.

@1500 hrs that seems premature, on these frankenyoke tubes,. Can anyone provide some clues as to what might be the cause.

yep Vision 1 with the frankenyokes.

I was about to take the covers off and remembered that I should listen to the wise men first.

First off, do the test patterns show green? If not, then proceed with:

-check the filament voltage to make sure it's still at under 6.5 volts. the 2 pin P14 connector is at the back of the blue tube. Measure that with a voltmeter.

If that's OK, then you have a video output board, VIM board or video connector issue.

Make sure the tube filament is glowing orange through the back of the neck board, where you can see the CRT socket.

Swap the CRT neck boards between tubes, making sure that the white wire is connected to the right pin before you power back up. Swap the green and red CRT sockets. Does the red tube now stay off, and the green come on?

I have checked the filament voltage in the past and was rock solid below 6.5v . Would that change during the life of the tubes?

I wondered whether gravity was creating connection issues and will check out all possibilities as you suggest.

it can if the LVPS was mis-manufactured. It's good to check it regardless if you don't know if it's an Ultra supply.

Pulled the covers off from the V 1 and turned on to check that there was life on the neck board end. All crts lit and stayed lit for the next 4 hrs. Watched more Star Wars and some youtube videos.

Cannot reproduce the failure but will bring my multimeter home to measure filament voltage again. maybe its time for some upgrades. This machine has MP's earlier neckboard mods and also IIRC the VIM input card, but these are now at least 7 years old.

. I realise I need to pay to play so its time to save for the hobby again. We will be stuck indoors soon and need to keep the theatre up to spec.....
