Hello All, First post here,

Today I went to power on my projector, turned it on, no video and shuts off after a minute. I looked at the back, all the low voltage lights lit up but the red Horizontal scan failure light was lit up. So I consulted my service manual and it said to check the +/-12v rails. The +12v rail reads 12 volts but the -12v rail reads about 8 volts. Is this enough to keep it from showing video? If so does that mean my LVPS is shot?

I did take the LVPS out to inspect it and I don't see anything funny (burned parts, bloated caps, etc, etc)

Might be one of the horizontal deflection boards, Because I don't think it's getting HV but I'm not sure.......

I would try another power supply. Possible some of the electrolytic capacitors have lost capacity over time.

An H fail usually is not the LVPS. It's usually one of the H cards in the back, or one of the deflection boards under the tubes. I am clearing out my ECP stock, so can sell you boards at next to nothing, including the LVPS if you want one of those.

Guys

I wouldn't pour any money into a twenty year old system that had reliability issues when new; have Curt set you up in an 8500 or 9500 with plenty of parts available.

If you're clearing 'em out I'll buy a few spares. Smile I might also try cleaning some contacts. This unit was working perfectly a few days ago......

Someday. An ECP is a good set to learn on. It was really cheap and nobody will care if I accidentally kill it Twisted Evil

Sure, shoot me an email at curtpalme@shaw.ca.

What I'll need is the board numbers that start at 50-XXXX-XX. Those are stamped right on the boards.

Thanks!

Replacement deflection boards must be matching identical Version and Revision numbers, if I remember correctly.

Okay I got around to working on this beast today, Defungused and put new glycol in the blue tube, reinstalled it, put new horizontal deflection card in (Thanks again Curt!) and it still won't show a picture (H-scan fail light on again!) Now time to try to find a new power deflection board I guess Thumbs Down

*EDIT*

Might be the Vertical Deflection Horizontal Regulator board that's bad. I've been poking around with the DMM and O-scope and going through the flow chart in my service manual.

Just as I thought! I swapped in a new vertical deflection/horiz regulation board (Thanks again Barclay66!) and that did the trick! works good now, but I have to set the vertical hold manually for some reason......
