|
|
Hi All,
It's been a while since I was last here, but I've been lucky to come across something quite interesting. It's a Seleco HD1250FP projector, in superb condition. I notice that there's almost no information about this one on the web, and certainly not here. Best I can come up with is that it was made to help with the development and promotion of the old European HD-MAC analogue HDTV system in the early nineties, and used by a few select broadcasting equipment companies. It's been in storage in its flight case for years, and seems to have been hardly used. Tubes look mint.
I haven't had a chance to see if it fires up yet, as I can only get it as far as the garage. This thing is huge! At least the flight case is on wheels! I'm interested in this to add something to the history of crt, and maybe get the home cinema of my dreams.
The HD-MAC spec was for 1440 x 1250i. Internet suggests this has 9" tubes, though unconfirmed as I haven't had the top off yet. It has one set of inputs, RGB + sync, though sync can also be on G, and a separate sync processing module. I don't have the remote, but there are menu buttons under a flap on the top, so maybe that'll be enough. I'm hoping the electronics are up to going beyond that HD-MAC spec.
I've attached some files. Whaddya reckon? Anybody know anything about this little beauty?

Oh, and the dynamic focus protection LED makes me think it is an EM machine, all other seleco I know of are ES focusing machines...

Hi,
Some data that I was able to dig up (mostly from italian websites):
HScan (kHz): 15-64
VScan (Hz): 45-120
9'' Tubes (presumably from Thomson)
Exhibited on the Expo '92 (Sevilla) as part of the TV Technology Pavillion (HD-MAC Presentation).
There's an article on HD-MAC in Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HD-MAC
See the links at the bottom of the article for details on the Expo '92 setup ('The hdtv demonstrations at expo 92')...
Regards,

Thanks everyone for the info so far. It'll be Weds at least before I can take the lid off to see what's inside. I'm hoping that although it was used to demo 1440x1250, because of the flexibility with the scanrates, it'll do better. All depends how much headroom they put in the electronics' bandwidth.

HScan (kHz): 15-64
VScan (Hz): 45-120
that should sync to 720P60 too.

So I've had the top off. Inside are Delta HD10 lenses, but the tubes are covered by a thick plastic case over nearly the whole length, with a strip of thick tape (metallised?) over some of the top. The remote situation is a bit more encouraging... there is a flap on the top that reveals some buttons and a couple of micro switches. It has R, G, and B buttons, so maybe setup is possible without the remote?

I forgot to mention that the back panel reveals the model number to be HDF1250/40. This doesn't really help the internet searches apart from it showing a German guy who had a /35 version with an SDI input.

Should be enough there for a setup, try running 800x600 in from a computer and see what you can adjust.

The Sim2 Executive I spoke to a few years ago at ISE, told me he was involved in those days the only competition being the Mighty Eidophor. I am sure that Mico 150 he was showing then presented a better picture, only it lacked the Eidophor's brightness. I guess those are the only people who knw about this unit, as it never made it any further than demo projects. Like that Philips rear-pro CRT Monitor I saw being fed with a modified Vision 1250 CDi player. BTW, 1250 was gross lines, so it would be 1125i, Hi-Vision was 1035 lines, 1080i is right in the middle.

Well, the weather has warmed up enough for me to power this thing up in the garage. After much power-cycling, selecting micro-switch positions and fiddling with buttons, it got further than the R-G-B LED "test" sequence, the fans kicked in, and there was light coming from the tubes. I could make out "MAIN MENU" in the red tube, and the cursor buttons could get me to different menus. However, the light output is pulsating on about a 5 second cycle, it comes on quickly, before blurring and then dimming slowly to nothing. HV problem? If it is, that'll be a shame, but this doesn't sound like a realistic set for home use, as the fans make it sound like a vacuum cleaner on heat. This is easily the noisiest CRT I've ever heard!

Pull it apart and make sure nothing is leaking.
