When I watch 1.185 AR movies the image is bright and sharp and the gamma seems perfect. When I watch a 2.35 AR movie the image is darker and less sharp. When I watch 2.35 AR in 817P @ 72 hz the image is darker still ( too dark) and there is no shadow detail at all. Is it the lumagen HDQ ? I don't even watch in 72 hz for this reason.

You need to calibrate your projector for each resolution, or stick to 1 resolution.

Check if you are using the same calibration profile in the projector, it might be running different profiles for different resolutions.

If the HDQ is using CMS, see to it use the same on all your output profiles.

All 3 were calibrated separately. I touch up the zone on all 4 separately. How do I check the calibration profile in the pj ?

If Craig has calibrated each profile in the projector it should be right, has it always been like this, or is it something new.?

I noticed it a few months ago but recently it seems to be getting darker.

Apparently I might just have to wait for craig to chime in, no one else seems to have any ideas. At least not that they are sharing.

No, the reason id say no one wants to share any thoughts is quite likely because you spent alot of money to have your set calibrated by Craig, so rather than suggest something that may lead you into f***ing that up, i would suggest speaking to him first.

Actually its because the answer is rather obvious. Think about the ar of the tube face and the content and it should become apparent.

Not really, the projector is still capable of the same light output per area of tube face, so why would it now change if he hasnt moved the machine and the same area of tube face is lighting up the same area of screen?

+1

And that would be quite easy to test.

Just run a 2.40:1 movie both as 1080P 60hz and 817P 72hz, if Justin is right they should look the same. At least if its setup and calibrated to do so.
