|
|
Hello from Australia, I have a Vidkron TGS XP projector that was left behind in my house when i brought it.
I used it for over a year without any issues untill now.
I used it one day turned of as normal next day she wont power on.
When i power on the red led comes on, i hear a relay click and thats it.
I opened it up and had a look but i guess the power supply is not happy with something and shuts down.
I dont see much info on this model on the net any help would be good.
Regards

Good luck
Those things are 15+ years old and parts are unheard of. Toss it and look for something widely supported, a Marquee or Barco

I am in melbourne.
I am ok with repairing boards but I usually need a few hints as to where the problem on the board is.
Of course if cost or difficulty of repair is to much l may chuck it or if someone wants it or parts from it let me know.

The problem is, no one have schematics for those machines, and no one cares about them anymore because they are not really capable machines... For the effort you spend on figuring out the things you can get way much better machines, which are HD capable, have digital convergence etc.

Gàbor is correct there, not much can be done with that machine, its about simular to a mid 90s rear projection TV. It wont be real bright, its only 15.7kHz capable, and its ES focus. It wouldnt be of much use other than retro gaming.

Welcome, Mad!
Unless you can find someone locally that has parts, you are a bit out of luck on this one. Not many were sold, as far as I know they are video only (the few TGS models that I have seen were all video only), and very few were sold.
I threw out the last two I had here at least 5 years ago, and they sat here for at least 2 years . Good luck!

I would use an old HD Fury 1 HDMI converter with gamma boost, pretty cheap at 140 bucks

Keep the screen size to 80" horizontal width max and I think you'll be impressed. I wouldn't hurt to check and see how much the other Melbourne guy wants for one of his G70's either, but I'm guessing it will be $1K minimum based on AU prices.
If you manage to get a 1270 or 1271, Curt has brand new tubes for sale, dirt cheap $150. for the set. Or, if you get the 1252, Curt has a brand new Blue tube, which is the one that wears out first on the ES focusing sets.
That would be the best picture possible in this price range and considering your location.

I wouldnt waste the $140 USD on a HD Fury 1 and then blow another heap of money shipping it to Australia... There are better cheaper options. Ill sell a HD Fury 3 for that.
When you say based on AU prices Dragan, on what do you base them? $1,000 for a G70 was 3-4 years ago. You can get a 909 for that here now. I paid $480 for a perfect XG852 on ebay 4 years ago, so if anyone pays more than $500 for a G70 id be VERY amazed. Prices of CRT projectors in Australia have gone through the floor. Lots of usuable machines dont even get bids, and when they do they sell for minimum or a couple steps up. I wouldnt pay $50 for a 125X or 127X Sony even if the tubes were very good. Its still an ES focusing set with f*** all bandwidth.
For $150ish he could wind up with an XG, and that would blow the top off a 12 series Sony.

Hi thanks to you guys and Jordan I picked up the Sony 1252qm.
It just fitted into the table setup the Vidkron was in. Connected it up with a S video cable and played with it for a couple of hours and it looks good.
Looks like the Vidkrons going in the skip at work.

First off lose the S-video, your watching 480i (which isn't even equal to DVD video) on a machine that can do 1080i or 72P hi-def. Look for a cheap HD fury and use it to convert 1080i from a BD player into RGHVH.
Second, you shouldn't be tossing a large piece of electronics " in the skip", find a place to recycle it, even if it costs you $20. it's better than putting it into a land-fill .

oh and congrats on the 1252, I think once you see what it can really do with a good signal you'll be happier than a Kangaroo with a shopping cart.

We dont do 480i here in Australia, its 576i for s-video in its interlaced form.
Dont spend $100 on this machine just to add DVI, its not worth it. By the time you ship it here youve blown way more than its worth. Its a 1252 for christ sake. It is absolutely not worth putting money into when you can get a WAY better CRT projector for around $100-$150 in Australia.
Get an external if you really must use anything, because at least you can use it on something else later.
Third, this is Australia, dump it in the skip at work, because that is exactly where itll end up if you attempt to recycle it, once they find out it is not worth repairing and they cant sell it, they put it straight in the landfill.
