Hello, I have a Monivision HD CRT monitor, model DM-6952S, whose only input is VGA for video, RCA for sound. It's worked fine for years, but my wife wanted me to move it, and I knew the cable wouldn't be long enough in the new position.

Right now, the source is devices -> HDMI switch -> HDMI - DVI adapter -> HDfury that converts DVI to VGA -> 6 inch VGA cable -> Monitor

So I bought a 10 foot VGA cord that's male on one end and female on the other, to insert between the Monitor and the HDfury to give me new room.

I did that today, and while I was gone, my wife tested it and tells me the monitor won't turn on. Actually it briefly turns on then immediately goes blank. This behavior is easily repeatable. So I tried removing the 10 foot cord, and hooking it back up like it was originally, and the behavior remains, so now we have no TV.

I even tried as a test removing the HDMI switch, so that it's device -> HDMI - DVI adapter -> HDfury that converts DVI to VGA -> 6 inch VGA cord -> Monitor, and still the behavior remains, so I'm mystified what I can try next, troubleshootingwise.

Does anybody have any ideas what could have caused this, and what the solution might be?

Update: I tried as a test, plugging a laptop in it as laptop -> VGA cord -> Monitor, and it still didn't work, but then when I looked closer, the monitor actually has 3 VGA input ports. So I tried the other two, and they both work, so my solution is to pick one of them as my new input port.

But now I have a new question: Could the simple act of plugging in a ten foot VGA extension cord damage a port? To be safe, I've connected my stuff to the new port without using that extension cord. In people's opinion, would it be safe or dangerous for me to attempt to hook up the extension cord again, on one of the still working ports?

Static electricity maybe? It can happen, I've had that happen to Barcos before.

By the way, I did wind up installing the 10 foot extension VGA cord, and there were no problems. My monitor continues to work, but at a farther distance from the video source than before.

I just googled the spec sheet on your monitor - you say it has three VGA inputs but the spec sheet says it has two, plus a VGA *output* .... is there a chance you plugged your source in that output and it "really didn't like it" ???
