Hi again,
As a CRT PJ novice, when I got my BG some weeks ago I feared the fan-noise but was surprised to the low noise-level it had although there were 4 fans running at nominal speed.
Nevertheless, when pushing contrast and brightness above approx. 75% the electronics start making noticeably more noise than the fans. The noise is somewhat modulated by the image, its particularly noticeable with the built-in test pattern for low-res video. Its not the higher-pitched HV-generator noise.
With higher resolutions I can push the controls to the limit without hearing anything.
Is this normal behaviour? Where could this come from? Any experiences to share on this?
cheers
Martin

the idea is NOT to run brightness and contrast that high! you'll wear the tubes out very quickly if you do. Run as low of brightness and contrast as possible for max tube life.
Also, I don't think there's a real answer to your question. All tubes pushed to the max will bloom and make noise, as you're pushing the HV and power supply to max output. There's always safety room, I don't think you'll wear out the power supply and HV parts as a result, but why push something to where it doesn't want to go?

Hi Curt,
be assured, the BG is running somewhere around 50, with some daylight in the room, cannot be avoided.
Just wondering if this electronics noise was normal or if I should look for a spare...
cheers
