I found a post that mp20748 had shown some pictures of a JVC ILA-12K that a friend had setup. I have one of these that I bought from a guy in Maryland but I am lost as there was no bulb, manual, remote etc. I need help as I bought this to begin an outdoor theater for the Knights of Columbus as a community event and now don't know where to turn to. Any help from anyone would be very appreciated on this matter. I am not in any way smart in the projection arena and may have gotten myself in deep trouble here. PLEASE HELP!!!!

A ILA-12K is HUGE, and it's in two very large units..
were you planning to use it as a Home Theater projector?

We are planning to use it at the Knights of Columbus as a fund raiser/ community once a month drive in theater. I had no idea how big and heavy this thing was until I bought it. But now I have it and need an arc lamp as it did not come with it. I also need any help with tips for setting up and running. It is actually an Hughes JVC EC12k but It looks identical to the ILA-12k so hopefully it is. The JVC pro site shows nothing so no help there. Is there any way your friend could post a pic of the lamp so I at least know what I am looking for?

Ok, I'll get back to you with a phone number of a guy who's the expert on these. And he'll also be able to get you a lamp for it. I have his number somewhere. but need to find it.

The EC12 was just the last run of the 12k projectors that Hughes-JVC made, for Electronic Cinema (EC - get it?) use. Your unit should have the latest modifications in it. I literally just decommissioned a 12K projector a week ago and have two lamps for it, the complete manual, etc. that you are welcome to. The "Guru" on these is Leo Bassett at Electronic Cinema Service. He has one running at his house.
Be aware that this projector needs 50 amp, 208 volt THREE PHASE power!

Wow, I sure would love to have everything you have for it! Any chance you have the remote or the software to control the unit? I have family up there in meriden, any way they could pick up the items you have? I really appreciate the help, was beginning to think this was going to the scrap metal bin fast!!!

Yes, I have the remote for it. I'll PM you for pickup instructions.
I have the 1.5:1 lens for it. Which ones do you have?

I will have to look to see what lens mine has. I have to honest, I know nothing about all this! It started as an idea to get the community out for family night once or twice a month and has become my project, learning the hard way (as if there is any other way to learn) about all of this. We are right around Ft Hood, was wondering if you think it would be ok to use a 3 phase generator to power this projector? My plan right now as of tonight is to put this in a connex with window cut out and an a/c unit mounted. Do you think this will cool it sufficiently (I realize there are many factors here but need a direction to aim for) Do you have any experience with wireless fm transmitting? Sorry to ping you with all the questions but not too many people to ask around here on these matters.

I'm happy to help.
A three phase generator could certainly be used, but won't the noise and smell be objectionable?
You probably could use a connex to house this, but the lamphouse exhaust will need to go through a cutout in the roof. This projector throws out a LOT of heat, 40,978 btus/hr in total. The lamp housing generates 13,000 btus/hr, so even if that is directly vented outside, you'll still need about 30,000 btus of cooling. Adding that to a generator now means a REALLY big generator will be needed...
You're also going to want to use a glass cover on the cutout because the projector is very noisy. Optic quality glass is very expensive, however, so try to find a theater that is being torn down for a proper window.
I am pretty conversant with small FM transmitters, and they are easy to set up. Finding an open frequency usually is the challenge.
Regards,
Arnold

Do I sense a reprieve for your old ILA Arnold?

I can't wait to see how this turns out.
