|
|
I'm looking to drive my Runco 1101. Some have recommended returning to an HTPC. I need another machine around to stream from anyway, so why not double duty and have it drive the PJ directly.
I want a better source chain that what I've currently got, but it will have to be able to gamma adjust and fix the weird porch issues with the Runco (Barco DATA) to get me proper 1080p. Someone recommended straight analog HTPC -> PJ. How viable an option is this? What would be a good video card? I'm not to worried about the audio issues, my setup is still DD/DTS 5.1. No fancy inputs needed either (no cable or sat). I've heard you don't need powerstrip with some of the new cards, but I never quite got the hang of powerstrip in the first place.
The current setup HDMI (PS3/Chromecast/ancient HTPC) -> VP50 -> HDFury I -> Runco.

wow, your going to try and play BD from an HTPC and feed it to a CRT. Even before they put DRM on BD discs the HTPC was always a PITA, can't imagine dealing with all that plus DRM and HDCP
I think you have to be a pretty hard core gamer and just love fiddling with PC's to suggest something like that. When I retired my HTPC for movie-playback it was a cause for celebration. Unfortunately it's back now for streaming

Yeah, all my prior HTPC usage was pre-Blu Ray, so I haven't had to deal with that. I've heard BD drives and software can be a pain.
I hate the PS3's controls for BD as it is. Most of what I watch has been converted to files so, not too much of a concern.

Im not sure why there would be an issue, ive never had any trouble getting bluray discs to play over the RGB output. Ive had issues keeping the nvidia 3D vision working, everytime i updated drivers it required setup again, but only on analog outputs.
Itll sure blow the PS3 away...

Make sure the video card puts out negative sync, otherwise you'll get a scrambled or no picture.

Curt, you can almost always select that with them now in the advanced settings.

get an nvidia card they let you set custom resolutions so you can adjust the porches.
ati cards do not have this feat, or maybe they do now but i doubt that.
but before you buy any card make sure you got the right one.
i would feed it over a moome or hdfury3, the fury1 is not that great quality wise.
playing blu rays isn`t an issue at all with htpc.

The ATi cards can do it, but last time i tried one ( not on my own computer ) it was not built into the drivers, where as the nVIDIA drivers do contain it. Im using a GTX 760 in one machine and a GTX 650Ti in the other.
It you install AnyDVD HD, you can output bluray discs from the RGB HV output on the card, and still use the HDMI for HD audio. I found the RGB output to be a touch better on my CineMAX than the MOOME V3 box, however there was no noticable difference between RGB and HDMI via the MOOME V2 internal card on my XG.
