Here's one for you guys. I got in a Luxman R-115 receiver from the 80s that seemed to work. About 1/2 hour in, it had the strangest problem. It went dead, the fluorescent display went out, no audio, but the selector buttons worked and the volume control LED lit up. Strange thing was, the AM and FM selector LEDs didn't work either, but all others did.

Problem, after pulling the set apart, and effing with it for about 90 minutes or so? Blown main fuse! Seems that Luxman wired the set so that most but not all of the front panel worked off the standby supply.

Now, the main fuse was blown due to a bad amp channel, but man, I've never had a partially 'working' receiver with the main 7 amp fuse blown. Go figure!

Haha. That reminds me of a 1970's portable radio that ran off one of those 6 D battery packs. If you plugged it in backwards the radio would light up but of course not work. Drove my parents nuts for ages. LOL
