Does anyone know this lens? Found on a Sony 1292. Can't seem to find any specs on it!

Hi,

The only time I've seen it mentioned was in this document:

Yes, I have 6 sets of them. Designed for a curved screen, useless for flat. By curved, I mean VERY curved, flight simulator style.

I bought the tool to remove the back curved lens, so I'm going to try and switch that back lens out to one from a GT17 or similar. These lenses look VERY high resolution, but are completely useless at this point. I will post when I try it, and will compare the end result to a GT17 and an HFQ900. Would be sweet if I could get the same resolution out of them as an HFQ900.

Hmm not good. The seller tells me he has a screen little over 2 meters wide and they focus. However he does not seem to be a CRT expert.

Center focus will be fine, edges will be a mile out.

I _think_ the curved C element on the tubes are still the same, only the lens changes the curvature, but I have not verified that yet. WIll do over the next couple of weeks as I retube the 919s...

At first from AVS and there from dvh99:

The following is a brief description of lenses in the HD10 family.

HD10E – The HD10E covers 167mm focal length (7”) CRT raster diagonal. It
was designed to provide good performance over the largest possible
magnification range (14-45X). For this reason, CPL recommends the HD10E
lens for applications where the intended screen size requirements may vary over
this wide range (90” – 300” diagonal).

HD10L – The HD10L is designed for optimized performance for smaller screen
sizes not covered by other HD10 family lenses. This lens provides excellent
performance for a specific magnification range (9-13X). CPL recommends the
HD10L lens for applications requiring screen sizes of 60-90” diagonal.

HD10GT17 – The HD10GT17 is designed for improved resolution over the HD10
lens over a specific magnification range. This lens provides excellent
performance for magnifications of 14-20X. CPL recommends the HD10GT17
lens for applications requiring screen sizes of 100-140” diagonal.

HD10GT26 – The HD10GT26 lens is designed for improved resolution over the
HD10E lens for magnifications of 21-30X. CPL recommends the HD10GT26 for
applications requiring screen sizes of 150-200” diagonal.

HD10GT30-67 – The HD10GT30-67 is designed for improved resolution over the
HD10E for magnifications of 30-45X and to extend the range of the family up to
67X. CPL recommends the HD10GT30-67 for high magnification applications
requiring screen diagonals of 210-460”.

The HD10R5M lens is designed for improved resolution utilizing a curved 4 meter
diameter screen application. It is designed for magnifications of 15-70X. This
lens is designed for Simulation applications and thus was designed for a domed
screen.

I have those lenses, and use them. I also made the 4k videos with them, so you can see how far they resolve. But I never was able to compare them side by side with other advanced HD10 lenses. And as Curt said, on flat screens edges are out of focus. But as my screen is close to 4 meters wide, and I sit about 2 meters away - edges are only abilight Smile. But the bigger the screen, the better the edge focus! So with me it is fine. They have a huge huge huge corner focus ability And they work for every screen size...

My marquee has the plain HD-10 lens and the corner focus sucks with my screen size(it's never clear no matter how much I tweak it)

You should do a step up to GT17 or HFQ900.

HD10's are ok but the others are much better when it comes to focus.

FYI, last night I converted one of the 919 projectors to be a Cine 909. Why Cine 909? I had a green tube with a green C element on it. Very Happy (the red is still clear... for now.)

Converting the blue neck board back to a 909 neck board took more work than I thought, as the video amp is mounted to the CRT socket, not the video amp board, but an hour later, that was fixed.

I also changed out the rear C element on the 5RM lenses to ones from a GT17 lens, and I got side and corner focus back. Will play with the set over the weekend to see how these lenses compare to stock GT17 and HFQ900 lenses. The one slight issue with the rear GT17 lens element is that you can impact it onto the C lens, due to the different height of the C element, but if you're careful, you're fine.
