Has anyone here ever tried one of these ?

I have a Roku that outputs 1080i via component and I think the first Apple TV did also. I think the Roku XDS was the only one made with HD component outputs. Not sure when they were produced but certainly before the dreaded analog sunset... Wink

I have one of these for archiving stuff off my DirecTV DVR...

They were $200 new, but now that analog is going away, they sell used for similar money to the ebay piece.

FWIW, you can add an HD Fury and a component cable and add analog outs to anything with and HDMI port - much more flexible, IMHO than using the old device, since the new devices typically are better/newer/fasters/have more stuff, etc. Costs more that way though, I guess.

Neither did the thing you posted before, nor did you say anything about an OTA tuner.

The Roku you ordered has HD component output (I hope you ordered the separate cable), but the box you ordered captures only analog SD. Unless I'm missing something, the only HD it captures is OTA.

At this point, I have no idea what you're trying to accomplish.

Yes I have the component cable for the Roku. I want to put together An HD DVR using my spare XP PC with an external 2 or 3TB drive for recording HD off Hulu Plus (Roku) or HD OTA broadcasts (Hauppauge) both for playback on my Dune player.Am I missing something in the specs ? Confused

Yeah, the Hauppauge box I posted earlier. I'd much rather buy one of those used and know there was support and lots of others using them than buy a no-name Chinese box with who-knows-what for software or support.

The Hauppauge box you bought will work fine for OTA, but it's not going to record HD from the Roku box becaues it doesn't have an MPEG-2 or H.264 encoder. Put simply, it just takes the OTA MPEG-2 stream from the ATSC receiver and passes it to the USB interface so it can be saved to disk.

I'm curious... Why do you want to record Roku? Are there live events that aren't available later, or do you want to record a bunch of stuff and then stop paying, or is just so you can record it one room and watch in another? If the latter, why not just get another Roku client?

Hulu plus has the entire Criterion collection of classic films many in HD with no commercials.

http://www.hulu.com/search?q=Criterion+Collection

Plus lots of good Roku channel content....The goal here is to put together a cheap HD DVR for HD OTA broadcasts and internet content. The cheap device from china along with the PC is the HD DVR side of the equation. I have a Magnavox MDR 515H DVR/DVD recorder for OTA SD and recording SD off the Roku..

I stopped paying for cable 15 years ago but have one hell of a good antenna ! Wink

I found one of these used at a pretty good price but before I think about buying it does anyone know if I can replace the small 80GB internal drive with a larger HD ? Even better an external drive with an adapter cable for an extension of the internal drive connectors....

Service manual anyone ? Wink

I guess I don't understand. If Roku and Hulu Plus are on demand, then why do you need to record it?
