Ok....I have finally gotten around to adding the TAW Rock Pro that has been sitting here for way too long. The dilemma I am facing is how I should setup my Sony BluRay with the new video chain. Do I setup the bluray simply using the HDFury into the HDTV Bypass it should I use the component I/O's in the gear so I can take advantage if the Rock's video processing capabilities?

The reason I even added the Rock was to be able to use a VCR and the old Nintendo and Playstation with the 10PG.

I played around with this setup for a little while this afternoon and answered my own question. I'm going to leave the Rock out of the Bluray chain. I'll keep running the Bluray --->HDfury2--->Extron--->NEC Switcher--->10PG. I thought I could take advantage of the adjustments the Rock has to offer but it's just not worth it. Simplicity has its advantages.

The Rock isn't HD capable, is it? If not, it's useless save for video and Svideo inputs. the simpler the better with the signal chain. Why even bother going through the Extron and NEC switcher?

What are you using the Extron box for; centering?

The Rock is not capable of HD in. It's working fine for scaling the Wii, Playststion, and VCR to 1080p. That's about all its worth other than the test patterns. As far as the switcher goes I have it setup to switch between the Rock, my laptop, and the HD Fury. The switcher is also pushing the video out to both my PG10 and my cheapie DLP PJ for extended video gaming. The Extron is being used for centering and boosting the signal slightly but with the switcher I really don't need it and will most likely shed it from the stack.

I'm pretty sure the Rock Pro did have a DVI input as a option. I did have one here to try out years ago. I had no use for the DVI interface. My Sony Sat reciever provided HD through a HD-15 connector and BD was not available yet. So I stuck with my Rock + which has a kick-a$$ SDI input. I had a Panasonic DVD player modded with a SDI out. That was as close to HD as it gets from DVD.

I think it does have the DVI input now that you mention it. I'll have to take another look. It does have the SDI input and I do have the modded Panasonic DVD player to go along with it but I have never tried it out. I figured my Sony BDP-S550 could do a better job of DVD playback any scaling....unless I'm wrong.

Try the scaler. It may look better than the BDP-S550
