so i was reading another thread and came across a nice idea for me... my dedicated room is about 2.5 x 2.8 M so pretty small...atm i have the projector on a tall table in between a pair of office chairs, not very good use of this space plus i cant fill my 100" screen ! ! ! ... so i was thinking about putting the projector IN my ceilling facing the back of the room and then using 2 mirrors, one @45 to come down into the room and then another @ 45 to reflect it to the front of the room (onto the screen)

how many people have experience with this , would i just be adding front of lens's to mirror to mirror to screen together as per standard formula for projector distance? (i'd actually be able to gain some screen size if i do this!!! ) and how about focus does that all just work the same? seems like a PITA to setup but would have great gains for me...

one more question if i was to go up into the roof would it be a good idea to box the unit as it gets dusty ect up in there and put some fans or something on the box...

Put the PJ vertical on the back wall, either up or down with a single mirror towards the screen. It is 110 inches from your back wall so you have plenty of room when adding the distance from the mirror to the PJ. I'd go wall mounted vertical low mount with the mirror towards the roof.

Hello

Best done with a first surface mirror or you may have ghosting issues.......and I don't mean Halloween problems!

Or do another room behind the viewing room and put the set in the room projecting through a window onto the screen

This is a front projection setup idea not a rear projection setup

Well there is merit in that idea, youre retaining the ability to use a normal reasonably priced screen, can continue to use the same little 7" projector, itll be in another room so you wont see it or hear it, this could just be the best idea youve come up with yet Big E Wink

Case the Ecp has quit working(low voltage power supply failed)I haven't used it since and I am in the works of upgrading my marquee to 9 inch tubes from the 8inch tubes vary soon

Also plan on doing the fan mod that is advertised soon as I am going to be running my marquee for awhile

It is a great idea but I would have to do more work then it would be worth due to my viewing room having concrete walls

But the idea isn't just for 7inch sets it can be used with any of them(hence why I brought it up

Though it is true having the lights on kills the picture quality(reguardless of front or rear projection)I know as when I used to use rear projection tvs if the lights were on it would cause unneeded light in the set and glare is also a factor(depending on the screen material)

I like this idea.... as im not chasing huge distance id only need to partially go into the next room which i could box in i guess which means turning around the room...I have no issues with this as it means the screen goes over the window Which i really don't care about as its blacked out anyway and means i can go back to using my tannoy towers, may reek some havoc with seating and entry but i'll do some more thinking for that idea, else i may commit sacrilege and convert the garage which introduces a who;e lot of issues with my other hobbies Smile

If you ain't going to have say a 120 inch screen the projector wouldn't have to be taking up the whole other room(in your case your garage) plus you would still have the room for your other hobbies

The seating will be hard to reposition but it may work out in the long run

If you mind upload some pics of the room for us to see so we can help out more

yep i should as i kinda confused you guys in the excitement of the good idea... Garage is quite far from my movie room but its a big double garage an i was thinking of closing it in as a big theater room with heaps of space.....or
2 . use the small room im using now which is all the way at the back of the house...the wall i'd have to mod is actually a bit of a feature wall from the other side so i'd have to plan this well ... and get the wife out the house for the weekend!!!!

List the room specs(for both rooms)
The projector make and model
The lens model
Exsample
I have a pretty good sized area for my viewing room(would have to measure it)and am running a marquee 8110+ with a 120 inch screen
Heck if I wanted to I could do two setups(but don't have two working machines to do it) I have that much room but its partly used as a storage area

Do you want me to take one with the 8inch tubes or wait till I have my 9inch tubes in?

I have some screen shots with the 8inch tubes in the set(nice pics)

mx83toy, are you thinking of punching a hole in the wall and putting the pj in the next room? I think it'd be a lot simpler to put the pj against the rear wall, facing up, firing into a 45° 1st-surface mirror like Nashou suggested. You'd still have the pj in the room with you, which is a bit of a disadvantage, but other than that I think it's probably simpler.
