anyone try this? I thought it was really good, did a great job of portraying the garbage that passes for "news" today and how hard it would be to get ratings if you went back to a traditional " just the facts" type of broadcasting. I'm surprised this went to season 2, it's got a pretty narrow cross section of society for an audience.

An excerpt from the season finale. I have said roughly the same thing many times. It hit home. Even if you don't like it, its pretty hard to deny the reality of the statement But I know some will anyway.

Do you call yourself a republican so you can make a claim to credibility when you attack the GOP ?

(Will) No I call myself a republican because I am one. I believe in market solutions and I believe in common sense realities and the necessity to defend ourselves against a dangerous world and thats about it. The problem is now I have to be homophobic. I have to count the number of times people go to church. I have to deny facts and think scientific research is a long con. I have to think poor people are getting a sweet ride and I have to have such a stunning inferiority complex that I fear education and intellect, in the twenty first century. But most of all, the biggest new requirement, really, the only requirement, is that I have to hate democrats, and I have to hate Chris Christie for not spitting on the president when he got off Air Force One. The two party system is crucial to the whole operation, there is honor in being the loyal opposition and I am a republican for the same reasons you are so I hope your voice gets louder in the next four years. ( Will Mc Avoy)

Ah, the typical secular progressive's view of Republicans. How predictable. Then, you hear it and then proclaim, "Yep, that hit home. Even if you don't like it's pretty hard to deny the reality of the statement." Then, you "head off any discussion at the pass" by continuing, "... But I know some of you will anyway.

Here's the deal, Jeff: Republicans are no more a homogenous group of rich, church-going, gay-bashing, science-denying Democrat-haters than are Democrats a bunch of liberal, welfare queen, drum-circle, tree-hugger pussies. Yes, there are some Democrats like that just like there are some stereotypical Republicans. But, they're just that: Stereotypes. Stop lapping up whatever "your side" tells you to belive and turn on your brain, Jeff.

I have stated before that I am a registered republican. Albeit a moderate. I didn't leave the GOP, it left me. That's why it hit home. "THE BASE" is an embarrassment.

is that your own conclusion after watching it or something you heard on fox?

I think the point Jeff is trying ot make is the people you just described took over the Republican party. There were plenty of conservatives, people with proven track records of passing laws that benefited the whole country, who lost their own PRIMARY because of one statement saying " climate change isn't something we should completely dismiss" ,or "I'm prepared to work across the aisle with the Dem's" .
The tea party segment of the house has crippled our entire country and scuttled laws that would benefit everyone. The federal government is completely paralyzed. Is this something you would describe as moving forward?
It's not even a grass roots movement anymore,it quickly morphed into a Koch brothers backed fossil fuel lobby masquerading as a popular movement.

Regarding the show; it's pretty much what Nash said. Generally, I've been a fan of HBO's original programming from day one ("Dream On" was their first show back in the 80's) but this is not one of their better efforts. They should scrap this show and dump the budget into Game of Thrones.
