|
|
I see used prices of the Barco selling for $7000-8500 no this and other forums and wondering if a Prodas would sell for the same prices used, or if there are differences that would make it +/-$.
Would a Prodas 919 sell for the same price as the Barco's hypothetically, if in the same condition?
What are the differences between the two models if any?
Is one more sought after then another?
Thanks so much for any help!
Cheers

For HT use you're not going to see a difference. Prodas/SEOS did some mods to the boards, not sure what they were though.
Frankly, you won't get $7-8500 for an as is used Prodas or 909 for that matter. Many of the earlier chassis were very problematic, and need a number of parts replaced to counter the issues. Barco completely redesigned one of the boards to counter various issues.
I've got a couple of 909s with new green tubes and mint blue and reds, and they're not selling for $6500, and that's with a warranty, So, if the hour count is over 5000, and there's wear on the tubes, figure maybe $2000-3000 tops at this point, and I think you'd be lucky to get that.
Also keep in mind that Prodas units were only sold to flight simulators that put 1000s of hours on them, so guaranteed that the tubes are worn for sure. that's the way it's been with every Prodas unit I've had through here, with the highest hour one being 63,000 hours. It didn't even qualify to be a parts unit.

Would the later model one be worth more then the earlier ones?
What if it has lower hours around 2000, would it be worth more?
Thanks for the quick responses, great forum!

It's pretty tough to say, as CRT is almost dead in the water. I buy 909s for parts at this point, as I have commercial customers like the military that won't shop on Craigslist or eBay, but they know that I sell parts and service them. I'd say that it's a buyer's market at this point.
3 years ago, my two 909s with 8000 and 16,000 hours would have sold the week I advertised them for $8K each. Now there's no interest at $6500 as the Sony 4K digital has brought CRT demand to another low point.
Shoot me a PM if you end up with 1 or two and we can haggle..

Let me guess, you saw some Barcos for sale and you thought you might be able to hit the jackpot. What are you going to do if the tubes are toast? What are you going to do if the pjs don't fire up? Just walk away.

Not so negative Spanky.... I know one or a few things about SEOS 919
One of the 4 projectors I've had is hanging on ceiling right now. Actually they are 909's not much difference, Sometimes they have different lenses for curved screen projection. (Mine had MANAKIN lenses) also vertical board has modification for better convergence in curved situations. They use their own software which is improved on stock Barco 909 software.
First models have some issues but where solved during time. I have all service bulletins about this.
For HT use they can be used like any other 909, just install colored C-elements, HFQ900 lenses and take COG, Edge modulation, boards etc. out and you are good to go. Curt is right about pricing but hey I do it for hobby. Also many times they have many hours on them, mine already had changed tubes 3 times. 12.000hrs on chassis, but still rock solid and also found many new parts in them.
So for profit: leave them
For fun/hobby: take them

Well I got the sets that the OP was posting about. Spent too much, my guess is that I was bidding against him. I was going to pass, but strangely had a phone call from a very LAAARGGGE company literally the day before looking to buy some 919s, so on their verbal commitment, I bid a bit more than I wanted to.
But with the demand for 919/909/Cinemax parts, even if some of these turn into parts units, eventually I'll get rid of them all.

Also, remove (or disconnect at the video board) the SEO's (blend) module if it also has one of them (attached to the control module), and be sure to remove connector going from the SEO's board to the video board - at the video board. Once that's done, you would have to put a jumper on the video board where the SEO's connector was removed.
When you have removed the SEO's from the video chain, and directly jumpered the connector - It's then that the projector is ready for high performance HD use, because having the SEO's looped in the video chain greatly raises the video noise floor in the image and it also puts a very slight moire in the image.
And if thinking about using SEO's for blending, forget about it.

Unto each their own!
I have said this before, but I think these are overrated.

Spanky, you need to see a well set up one. The ones you got had nothing but issues, it took a pile of work to get them going, and even then one failed as soon as I sold it. Luckily it was here in Vancouver, and I had quadruplers. The other two are repaired but still here.
No question that the later sets were more reliable, it took Barco a couple of years to work out the bugs, since it was a brand new untested design.
I talked with the guy who dealt with the 919s just now. He said they were reliable, he'd never heard of me, and they did most of the repairs themselves. The sad thing is, they had a whackload of new tubes, that got absorbed back into their 'system' for use at other locations. the good news is, he was happy to hear that I have Marquee parts, as they've retired the Barcos, but do have a bunch of Marquees still.
I go get them Monday. Also, they were originally out of a tank simulator. I've seen helicopter simulators, I'd love to see a tank one....
