Here is yet again another Denon of mine. This time its a 3808CI, and when you turn the tone defeat off to adjust the tone settings, the audio disappears, can't hear it from any output any input etc..., if I turn it off it comes back, if I switch from stereo/direct to a surround sound mode, sound cuts out again as described above, go back to stereo, it returns.

Same thing for digital audio inputs, no sound is heard through them (or the LAN). Analog inputs work fine, FM/AM tuner work fine, I can adjust channel level and that so far is about the extent of what I know I can do with the receiver.

If this one can be repaired, it may just save a AVR-2809CI as well Wink

I did some digging and that 3808 is full of firmware problems. I think before we attempt any troubleshooting the firmware should be updated. Does that receiver have an ethernet port?

Download and read the 2 firmware documents from here: http://usa.denon.com/us/downloads/pages/instructionmanual.aspx

Check "search by text" and put in your model number.

I did not read them as I do not have the time. Let me know if you have any questions.

Mac,

It indeed does have an Ethernet port. The initial issue I had with this receiver was it would just keep trying to update the firmware. When I hooked it up to the internet and it started to download it said "74 min" for time remaining, needless to say it never updated.... I've tried several times but it just won't update, then again I've read a lot that it had issues updating as well.

I'll give it a try, but I'm not expecting it to update, lol

Then it's possible your DSP firmware is corrupt and could be why that part is not functioning correctly.
