Hello,

This subject has probably been discussed before, but I was wondering if it was worth having to output 1080 lines on a 4/3 CRT when only around 800 are really used on a 1.78 ratio movie (the rest is black bars). Would not be better (less tiring for the pj) to display only 1920*810p?

Yes that's a really good thing to do! You will not be stressing the electronics with the unused horizontal lines!

I think it's called active area scanning.

1.78 AR=1920 x 1080
2.35AR= 1920 x 800

This is applicable to CRT

In a 4/3 raster, how fits the 1920x1080 picture ? I thought that the picture was squeezed in the 4/3 raster (for my BG 808, max res is 1600*1200). Squeezing implies overlapping lines ?

Just do it works flawless.

Do you have a scaler?

800p or 817p are fine for 21:9 and you could also do 72Hz.

yes I have a radiance XD. Do I have to select the resolution manually or does the XD can do it automatically when it sees 2.35 movie?

There must be a pre-set resolution of 817p in the video output menu.

Otherwise you may have to upgrade your firmware.

Not yet, because I am a bit confused by the result I had yesterday.
I have a Radiance XD upgraded to output 1080i@72. I tried different resolutions/frequencies and I tried 1080p72 and 1080p75 which should not suppose to work. My BG 808 (Eisemmann modified) accepts and recognizes them correctly.
The picture looks fantastic but (unfortunately there is a "but"), I can see (very sligthly) sometimes like horizontal bars on clear background (but not white ones, but light grey or yellow ones). Like the streaking problem but with larger bars and on a bright picture. Is it caused by the radiance or the BG808 ? Could it be fixed by adjusting porches or sync ?

I know that according to the specs of the XD, the output is HDMI 1.2 (or 1.1) and should not be able to output more than 1080p60. But mine does it. So it is a XD upgraded in XE and I don't know about it (I bought it second-hand) ?
Anyway, it is mystery to me.

Floor or ceiling mounted ?

If you have the projector on the ceiling Barco got issues with a horizontal line from left to right in the middle of the screen.

When you have switched to floor its gone.

Well that works for me since the 3 last versions, but you need to pay to get this feature Wink
Anyway, I found the reason of my problem regarding the horizontal bars. It is caused by the PHASE value in GEOMETRY menu. I had to put it near 0 and move the raster to the opposite direction, and the picture is great Smile

if you are referring to "line of coincidence", i have it on a floor mounted barco also, its not about being on the ceiling or floor.
