|
|
I would like/love to be able to take down and put back my XG without having to round up several neighbours - does anyone know of a lift device that will go from say, 3 or 4 feet off the ground to 8 feet up ?
A local industrial supplies company called Acklands Grainger has hydraulic elevating carts and platforms but they only have like a 5 foot travel max. IE they'll go to about 5' off the ground...
Curt you must do a lot of this - what do you use ?
Thanks...Dave

Yup, a Chief lift. I just got one in. It lowers the set via aircraft cables, then you lock the portion that lowers down to the top part of the lift. Good for up to a 9" set.
$250, that's what they go for all the time. Was about to list it on eBay, but will not if you want it.

Wow thanks - several replies within mere minutes! The Genie lift looks awesome, but out of my price range at this point. Curt can the Chief be used "temporarily" to lift up my XG to its existing ceiling bracket ?

No, the Chief unit IS the mount, with cables and a motor.

Assuming that what Curt has is the EVCM-100D that there was a PDF of it looks to me as though a projector specific hanging bracket is required, so I would have to turf/de-install my existing bracket and rework the mounting to include a 1-1/2" pipe ?
At the moment my XG mount is flush against a t-bar ceiling, and the mount consists of two parallel pieces of unistrut that fasten to the ceiling joists with angle brackets...then four threaded rods come down out of the unistrut into the four corner holes in the factory XG bracket. I'll have to post a photo or something.
Sure it would be helpful / appreciated to see other's Chief installs... thanks for offer, Phoenixed!

Dave, I do have an XG bracket here if you don'y have one. You bolt the Chief to the ceiling, bolt the XG bracket to the Chief mount. So the XG bracket will be down about 3-4" from where it was before, since the Chief mount is now flush to the ceiling. You can mount the Chief to a pipe flange, or bolt it right to the ceiling. Either way works.

Curt when I bought my XG from you it came with the factory bracket; I assume that's what you are talking about. I'm doing some research then will PM you... Thanks!

Dave, if you want a low-budget solution, Clarence's "chain lift" method works great. I put my Marquee on the ceiling by myself, 30 minutes from "hook up the chains" to "take off the chains, it's in the mount."

I'd say go with Curt's Chief mount since it's all packaged & ready to go.. but if can't find one, and it you have any clearance above the projector at all (10-12"?), I'd suggest a cheapo electric winch. They can be had for $100 shipped on ebay, or Harbor Freight carries them as well.
They come with a pipe mount, so I lagged a couple security brackets meant to hold a 2x4 in front of a door and ran a pipe through it. Took all of 15 mins to install.
It works perfect with a Barco mount and drops it to the floor in a few seconds. I'm unfamiliar with NEC's mount, but I imagine it wouldn't be too hard to figure something out..

Another thumbs up for El cheapo winch. This hoisted my 240lb G90 to the ceiling single handed. The biggest problem I had was mating the lower and upper parts of the PSS-90 mount. The winch is supported independently and is still attached to the pj offering an additional level of redundancy.

My projector is now snuggled happily up against the ceiling again, thanks to the Chief lift I got from Curt !!!
I didn't end up using/needing the original XG bracket at all; instead I slightly elongated the four bolt holes on the 4" L-brackets that the factory bracket attached too, to get the spread a little wider apart - enough to bolt the Chief bracket into (the part that the cable loop fastens to/through).
After that it was a matter of re-working my Unistrut hangers with a pair of new ones running crosswise to mount the Chief too, bolted to the original pair of unistrut bars that my old XG mount was fastened to.
Man was it a rush seeing my XG rise off my HT floor like the proverbial Phoenix !
...will post some pictures if I can get time...

Transmission jack for lifting truck gearboxes seems to work fine here.

As promised, some Photos of my XG on the ceiling of my HT , and close-up of the Chief Lift to XG angle bracket attachment... in addition to elongating the bolt holes I had to slightly notch the upper edge of the XG bracket to clear the locking tab mechanism.
Cheers!
...Dave
