|
|
I currently have 3 808 SMPS
1x bg808 Build date 1995
1x bd808s Build date 1997
1x cine 8 Build date 2001 or 2002
Since the cine 8 has the latest build date i'd like to use the smps from that projector but seems there is some kind of squealing in certain scenarios.
It's the loudest when projecting a bright white image. I'm certain it's the SMPS and not the quad/eht since swapping the SMPS eliminates all the sound.
All the capacitor's seem fine (entire smps looks like new). Any idea what this might be? And is it save to just ignore this?
Would it be advantages to recap the SMPS? Or maybe just swap the SMPS for the BD808s one?

You can ignore it, or cure it by swapping both main transformers. That's the cause of the squealing most likely.

Is there any advantage in using the newer SMPS from the cine 8? Or are the powersupplies nearly the same? (different R-numbers)

The power supplies are definitely not the same, so they are not interchangeable.
R7621706 from BG808 is a MKII SMPS and R763606 is a MKIII version, designed to work together with the power factor corrector R762905 and the EHT R7627165 ( for BR909 ).
All versions of Cine 8 projectors, with exception of the ones equipped with PFC modules, use the MKII SMPS.

He can do that, of course. I was more concerned about swapping a R763xxx board with a R762xxx one and '' ignore the squealing ''.

These parts are from your projectors Hulio
The donor Cine 8 had the PFC board.
SMPS + PFC board from the Cine 8
EHT + Quad from the BG808
Not a good combination? Should i revert to the non - pfc board and the original BG808 SMPS? Or swap the tubes back in the Cine 8 chassis so i can use the cine 8 voltage chain?
The partnumber of the SMPS should be R763606 (from the barco spare parts document)

The PFC board will not work on a motherboard that wasn't designed for one.

Well everything seems to work flawless.
Starting to get uncertain about this
Getting a set of modded 808 boards but what should i do?
Revert the BG808 back to stock and insert the boards
Go hybrid? I assumed the newer barco parts would be more reliable and possible beter performaning (some boards have the S or 5 at the end of the number).
Thanks for the advice!
Edit; Hulio the squealing also happend on the stock cine 8, it is barely noticable though (and completely harmeless it seems)

Fragzero, i know we're talking about the Cine 8 and G808 from me.
IIRC, the sound coming from the SMPS was not there with the original Sony 07MFP2 tubes. I guess it started when you put the MEC 180DVB22 in the Cine 8. MEC tubes needs 5,5V filament voltage, while the SMPS generates 6,3V for the Sony tubes.
I would not go hybrid if i was you. One option is to put a new set of Sony tubes in the Cine 8. The second option ( and the best one, if you ask me ) is to use the BG808 with the Eisemann V9 modded boards you are soon expecting, and color filtered HD145/144 lenses. Some reasons why, in my opinion, is the best option:
1. With exception of the port 3 board and horizontal defl. board, the other four modded boards ( focus, quad decoder, vertical board and RGB switching ) are specific BG808 boards, with different R numbers.
2. A modded BG808 with MEC tubes, color filtered HD145's and stock 75Mhz RGB amps could be sharper than a Cine 8 with Sony tubes, HD8-B lenses and 120Mhz amps.
3. Even the Cine 8 is a 2001 model, it has more than four times the run hours of the BG808.
So go for the modded BG808, i'd say...

There is a trim pot on the SMPS for filament voltage you should correct that.
