Hello , I have a sony 1252 projector with good CRT's. I want to add 21 point convergence and have a DE and DD board from a sony 1271 but do I have to change the Y cpu board with one from a 1271 to get the 21 point convergence going? I tried to plug it the DE and DD board with no luck! I also have a Sony D50 which I purchased and picked up for $50. The projector has 9800 hours on it with no apparent tube burn. I have set it up and it trows a fairly good picture With a DVD but the image looks soft when viewing the windows desktop compared with a Acer dlp projector. Is this normal or are the crt's soft from having so many hours on them? I would love to get this projector up to snuff and will try a very careful focus and set up. Is there any way to control the electronic focus like the 1252? I also have a NEC 9pg projector that is a little shaky. I think I am going to replace the electrolytic Caps. But that is a project for another day. Bob Adamo :

Electro static focusing projectors are known for their softness compared to electro magnetic focusing projectors, more precisely the ES tubes are loosing their focusability with their usage, even if they don't have wear, but have a lot of hours in them they will look quite soft. I think the D50 should be good for only 800x600 or maybe 1024x768 for using as a computer display. The 9PG would be the best amongst of your projectors (as being an EM machine), if it would run stable, and the tubes are in good shape.

I hooked a NRS scaler to my D-50 1360x1024 looked pretty good upscalling a regular cable box.

Resolving a video content at a certain resolution and reading small text on a windows background are two different things. A movie looks wy sharper at 1080i-96Hz than on 720P-72Hz on my PG xtra, but it is much easier to read a text at 720P.

Very true, I use to run my 1252 at 1024x768 to make it easier to read. Especially on an high hour machine - 12 000+hrs
