Have to cover the VV1 to guard it. Thinking of either permanent cover hush box or just a cover to remove. Just curious who has done it. And NO I am not removing the outer shell. NFS!!!

Some will maybe chime in with designs, but one thing to keep in mind is that you still need to cool it adequately so it needs to be somewhat open. You can't just but a box over a CRT projector (or any projector) with only openings for the lens(es) and expect it not to have a reduced lifespan.
Best case scenario is to in fact box it up tight but evacuate the air from the hushbox continuously with an externally located fan to keep things quiet. This is often hard or impossible to do with floor mounting, easier to do with ceiling mounting?
The first thing I'd ask is: Why not ceiling mount? You're losing the best seat in the house with a floor mounted setup.

6 10' ceilings in the man cave
I have decided that I will build a cover with latches and will stay protected when not in use.

That's low, but not much different than what I had at the old house. I was able to place the projector & hushbox over the first row of seats so that nobody walked into it since the chairs were in the way. (see my avatar picture to the left)
Figure out the throw and where it'll sit and see if it makes sense to place the seating directly underneath.
The bonus is that the E'home chassis is somewhat "tall" (not long) so that it'll hang down lower and not go too far front/back and result in bumped heads for people walking in front of and behind the seating. Better to have it hang lower.
Mine hung down to about forehead height but it was impossible to hit because of how you get in and out of seating.
To each their own, but I'd go digital (which I did have to do in the new house) before giving up the best seat in the house.

You find few designs from Google "coffee table hushbox".
Test damping effect with something simple like U shaped tunnel made of mdf/plaster board with acoustic wool inside, before building anything too fine.

For you, maybe. If he has guests like me (6'4") it might be tough to situate the seats under it so I *wouldn't* bonk my head.

I understand what you are saying Kal. But....it measures 2 feet thick with the chief lift. And my man cave utilizes a sectional couch made from lazy boy. A very large one at that! So "best seat in house" is not too meaningful for me. And I understand your digital change. However you had a zenith 1200x which is a fine unit. But I got a hell of a value with a redone and retubed VV1. For 45 bucks. It has the moome card as well. I do not think I will get as much value going to digital right now. However I would choose the DLA JVC.

Got a picture?
Usually you want to strive to put the best seat in the house front and center from the screen at the distance that provides a confortable viewing angle.
The unfortunate part with CRT and their fixed focal length lenses is that you usually always want to sit at the same distance from the screen as the projector I see a lot of people with setups where they're forced to always sit behind but (IMHO) that's way too far back.

Kal,
On 4x3, I thought sitting behind the pj (1.5 sw or more) was preferable. With 16x9 and 2.35, I like to sit a little closer.
I looked at one of those threads on AVS. I will probably go with a floor mount and build a big coffee table hushbox. Mine won't have a bottom or front.

What am I supposed to do with all of the G90s I have?
I haven't decided yet when I am going digital.
