I have a Denon AVR 5805. When you power up the receiver after being off for several hours, the receiver makes a repetetive clicking noise that lasts for approx. one minute then the noise stops. Turn off the receiver after clicking noise stops, turn on the receiver and the noise does not reoccur. Turn the receiver off again and let the receiver cool down for several hours and the clicking noise intermittently, not all of time re-appears.

Has anyone had this same problem

Could it be a bad speaker wire, a need to re-set the receiver.

Hello there,

I would have to guestimate since I have the same receiver, that the clicking you are hearing is actually one of the relays inside the unit. I would speculate that it could be bad speaker wire, or a intermittent connection inside the receiver as well.

I'll be honest, these AVR 5805s do not go bad. I have only seen bad ones from shipping damage, that's how I got my AVR 5805. It took months to get it going again because it was so bad (my ultra long thread is around here somewhere).

There is a guy here (Macguyver) who is pretty good with service manuals, he might be able to help you out a bit better with this issue since yours is intermittent.

I wish you luck, the AVR 5805 is one hell of a receiver!

Thank you Jeremy 112 for your response.

Last night after several hours of non-use turned the unit on no clicking noise. This am after the same time of non-use, turn the unit on clicking noise is heard.

The question that exists is since the receiver has been discontinued if a repair is needed do the parts exist to fix, the cost to fix or should I purchase the Denon AVR-4520CI, since I will pay to fix an eught year old unit.

If I leave the receiver alone and do not fix it, will the receiver crash and burn - Top Gun saying

The orice of these units varies for used value, if its a mk2 version its would be worth repairing, since its 1080p capable for hdmi and its network controllable, of which the mk1 is not, and thus worth o nly about $1000 so it really depends o n your decision. I think denon may still carry the parts for it, worth looking into if you want it repaired

The receiver is MK 2 version 1080P upscaling.

If the speaker wires were bad, how can you tell which wire and where the wire may be defective since I used banana plugs and the wires run through the entire attick and dry wall.

To determine if the speakers/wires are the cause, I would just disconnect all the speakers from the receiver and then try it out without them. If it still behaves the same way, then you know its the receiver, if it acts normally, then you have a wire/speaker issue.
