Hi,
I searched the forum but I could not find any helpful hints for my problem. Can anyone help me (and preventing me to buy a digital projector)?
It startet weeks ago when I noticed that the projector fails powering up sometimes with the following sequence:
* powering it up via remote
* belly fans start spinning, hv is being applied to the tubes ("crackling noise")
* relays clicking
* projector shuts down to standby, showing "LVPS fail" on the CLB for 1 second
* projector is in standby again
Usually it helped to try switching it on again, then it worked fine for hours.
Yesterday it started getting weird The following happens since then:
* powering the Marquee up via remote
* belly fans start spinning, hv is being applied to the tubes ("crackling noise")
* relays clicking
* projector shuts down to standby after displaying the picture for a few seconds or just immediately showing "LVPS fail" on the CLB for 1 second
* projector is in standby again
BUT: this happens only if I apply a 1080p-signal via HDMI (Lumagen HDP via Moome card) to the projector. If no signal is applied, "no VSYNC" is being displayed without shutting the PJ down. The PJ works also with a SVIDEO signal or a 720p or 1080i-signal directly from a sat receiver. If I switch to the 1080p-signal, the PJ shuts itself down immediately. (just to be sure: the setup worked before for about 2 years)
Yesterday I managed to start the PJ up after several (10-15) tries, then it worked fine using the 1080p signal for 2 hours until I switched it off manually.
I already tried:
* re-seating LVPS, HVPS, Focus module, HDM, VIM, VIM-HD, CLB
Can anyone help me?

remove the ribbon cable going to the green and red neckboard and try again.
if that doesn`t solve it, remove the ribbon cable to the blue tube and try with green or red only connected.
don`t know if it will bring you closer but it might.
last time i had a lvps fail it was a blown capacitor on the red vnb.

There are LEDs at the front of the LVPS, does any light up before shutting down?
Also you might try to reseat all ICs in their sockets, it often helps. Otherwise it could be indeed an LVPS problem. As scan frequency increases more stress on boards.

Check the 3 fans inside the set. You can see them looking down through the focus board and the HDM (pull the focus and HDM boards out, and fire the set up). You won't get a picture, but you can see if the fans spin.
YEars ago I sold a 9500 that would blow the HDM every couple of days, but only at 1080p. It turned out that the chassis had two bad fans, causing the HDM to overheat and short out. The whole set runs a bit hotter at 1080p, so check those.

Thank you for your quick replies.
@dvh99: I will try to check this.
@gjaki: No LEDs are lighting up at the LVPS.
@Curt Palme: I will check this but I doubt it is a temperature issue as the problem occurs only at (cold) startup and the PJ is running fine for hours if I manage to power it up.

Update: all fans are spinning normally, a lot of air is getting blown through the heatsinks of FCM and HDM.
After a few tries, the set is running normally right now. Very strange... With other sources than the Lumagen HDP it worked instantly today.
