Scroll through the photos and notice what is hanging from the ceiling http://www.estately.com/listings/info/835-chiltern-rd
With a house like that the owner could afford anything and it still has a CRT

Aside from the nice indoor pool, squash court and gym I wouldn't buy it. $35million gets you a lot of ugly to where you'd need a maid and full time gardener. Is that even a theatre? Looks like the bridge of a starship or boardroom, not welcoming :/

What a bargain! Zillow says it was worth twice that much in 2005-2006.
But who'd want it? You'd have to associate with common people. I mean, the other houses in the neighborhood are worth only $2-6 million. You'd be surrounded by hovels. The horror.

That is why I think it was a producer or directors house for screening films and what not. It to me looks like the "main man/woman" would sit in the first chair and call attention to things being displayed.

Yup. It's really odd looking.
I don't think it's a home theater. I looks like a room for doing boardroom style presentations.

I agree kind of has a Star Trek TOS theme.
Not as over the top as this Star Trek TNG theater.
