|
|
I've acquired several BG808s' that have been decommissioned from city government conference facilities. I'm not sure how much of a market is left for these, but thought I'd try parting them out before pursuing the electronic scrap recycle route. Along with the projectors were several spare parts including some gently used tubes, but I've noticed most of the tubes have pins 4 & 13 cut off. I found a note in another forum that indicated this was "normal" for Barco tubes, but I'm curious as to why this is. Can someone enlighten me?
BTW, if anyone needs any spare parts, PM me or check out my Ebay listings. (Mention this post and get a 15% discount off any part ordered )
Thanks!

That is indeed normal. Those are SOny tubes, not sure why the pins are missing, I guess the obvious answer is because they're not needed?
I'll take the HV quadruplers out of all the 808 if you're scrapping them. PM me...or email me.
Cheers!

Thanks for the reply Curt... I was aware that the pins weren't used in the 808, but baffled by the fact that somebody would take the time to cut off something that was "not needed", especially when so many are like that!
The only think I could think of was perhaps they are also used in some other projector that requires them to be cut (either for electrical reasons or a mechanical issue with the socket).
Along with the batch were some R909 spare parts (most of which I've already sold) so I'm sure 808's were not the only projectors being maintained by the group I got them from.
The quads and the HV splitters are about the only things from the 808 that actually seem to be selling so far, but if I end up with any that don't sell, I'll sure give you a holler before dumping.

All Sony tubes have same pinout and that have 3 pin connected to Grid 1. Barco have cutted 2 non connected G1 pins from their tubes.
In all Barcos I have those connectors are also left non connected from crt connector/pc board side, so hard to say good reason for that. It's hard to believe that those pins could induct some disturbance from neck board if leaved uncutted.
Could be some historical reason, maybe some model have those pins grounded and cutting is for preventing short in those models. Or just to prevent using Barco tubes in some competitors projector that use other pin for G1.
