|
|
Hello all,
I am new to these forums, this seems to be the best place to seek advice on my rather esoteric question. So my parents bought a new home in 2008, and in the basement there is a home theater section. The old owners of the house set up the home theater around the year 2000 I believe.
For the first year when we watched movies using the projector, there was a slight blue hue on the right corner of the screen, barely noticeable. But over the last few years a green color has started to take over the black areas of the projected image. It seriously hurts the quality of the movies we watch, so for the last year we haven't even used the theater. The old owners of the house told us that we can call some people to come over from Massachusetts who can look over the problem (we live 8 hours away), but I think it might be a huge waste of money considering this appears to only be a bulb problem.
I'm not sure what projector we have, but based on my research I am guessing it is a Vidikron CRT Vision 2 or something like that. Attached are two images, I would appreciate if someone let me know whether I am right or not.
Anyway, after years of use is it normal to expect changes in the colors that are projected? Like I said, there is a very noticeable green shadow around the images projected on the screen. It is progressively getting worse. Is there something I could do by myself without professional help in order to fix the problem?
Any help is greatly appreciated! I know virtually nothing about the world of projectors.
Thank you!

Hello and welcome.
Could it be convergence drift?

With what you're saying, I'd agree with fungus, but yes, post your location, as one of us should be within driving distance that could do a service on the set to get you back up to speed, and update you to HDMI sources if you're not via HDMI cabling already.

Nice, you have a so called ACON camera on the projector, it enables to autoconverge the machine, which is of course not perfect, but can keep the machine in usable state, this is ideal for a newb. If you feel yourself handy with tech stuff you can find a lot of help about setting up that projector properly. -> http://www.etechvideo.com BUT before that you should read this: http://www.curtpalme.com/CRTPrimer.shtm this will introduce you to the world of CRT projectors.
Electrohome Marquee projectors (what you really have) are very user friendly, there is a fully guided setup procedure and lots of help built in the machine.
Post pictures about the built in testpatterns as Nashou66 suggested, and we'll see if it is really a color balance problem or simply (mis)convergence.[/url]

your in for a fun ride and welcome i'm very new to these crt dinosaurs as well and if your reading this forum sometimes it will seem like stuff is in a different language and its ok these guys can get pretty technical to say the least or your reading one of athanasios's posts , these projectors i have found are a hobbiest wet dream and are great fun! you really can take em to the next level but you'll learn about that.... that's a nice projector and as pointed out might just need some tlc or setting up/ tweaking stick with em they are great !!! as you play with em things will start to make sense and fall into place alot faster for you.... don't forget nearly all issues with these beasts are serviceable and if its not your thing to be that involved with your machine im sure many ppl will be happy to take it off your hands and suggest digital Goodluck ps post up some screen shots

There are no CRT dinosaurs. I can't say the same for the owners though
