|

Hi everyone!
First i have to say: I'm from Germany so i hope my english will be sufficient enough and i can explain my problem properly.
I bought a Barco Data 701 former owned by the US-Army. It was used for a Simulator System called F.A.T.S wich, from what i know, was working with Laserdisk player and used the S-Video inputs of the projector.
A few days ago i tried to connect my X-Box with both Component and S-VHS connectors. I tried to switch trough the input channels but the projector didn't receive a signal it seems.
Is there some special board needed to process these signals (Wich might have been uninstalled before selling the projector) or are these processed on the main video board like the signals from the RGBHV Inputs?
Is there something to do to lock to the input signal besides switching to the designated input channels?
Thank you in advance!

Tempus | I wouldn't even bother with S-video, it's 480i crap. The component video will handle 1080i which is a good resolution for that machine. For component, you would need a cable with RCA connectors on one end and three BNC connectors on the other end.
Are you getting no signal at all, or is the screen simply scrambled looking when you send it a video signal?
if so, then the problem is either
1) a problem with the barco, I had one here that ran ast 1080i for a few hours then scrambled the picture
or
3) the X-box is outputting too high of a resolution through component

If I remember correctly, the FATS units had their video and Svideo inputs disabled. I could be wrong on that, but even if I'm wrong, Dragan is right, go with a higher resolution RGB signal to make the most out of the set. I can't even remember if the component mode is active on the FATS units...
What I would check first is the tube condition. THe FATS units always had a big FATS logo in the middle of the screen when the simulator wasn't running, and most of the projectors had that logo burned badly into the tubes. If the tubes are not burnt, you got a good one.

Thanks for your answers! I was quite busy lately so it took a while for me to reply, sorry.
As you sayed, the inputs seem to be disabled. Is this some kind of firmware thing wich can be fixed maybe?
I own my barco for quite a while already. You one looks very closely, you can experience a very slight wear in the center of the tube but its not visible except you project a plain white image. Back when i bought it, i was lucky enough to choose the best available one out of a whole warehouse full of these fats units. Therefore i have to say thx to you again because basically all my knowledge came from your website. I guess if you site wouldn't exist back then i would have ended up with a lot worse projector!

Why. Not get a cheap line doubler? If the input is disabled. It would take aot of work to enable it, more than the set is worth. Get a line doubler and then use the rgb inputs.
