Picked this one up along with the JVC HR-D725U VCR last week. Nice look and feel.
Sounds pretty good too. I put a set of Paradigm Titans on it for now. They are a bit newer than '88 but I couldn't find a set of RadioShack Minimus 7's to put on this ( yet )
Yes I'm building a 1988ish system.
This is fun!

Most of those receivers are pretty solid, I sell lots of them on CL for $25 that I get from the recycler. It's the slightly earlier ones, from the early to mid 80s, that had buckets of KPD (knobs per dollar) that failed often, were overly complex internally and are instant throwaways at this point that you need to avoid.

I passed on a Sears 8 track/cassette double height unit. It worked but I didn't want the Honta virus from all the mouse pee all over it. When I left the store I washed my hands in windshield washer fluid to disinfect them.
Likewise I passed on a good working SONY VCR for the same reason.
I wish you could go out and buy quality like this today that doens't need a damned firmware upgrade.
