Okay I want hard facts on this. I hear that the Barco 708 is indeed a great machine to this day. It only outputs 720p and 1080i. I am having problems with my epson 8350 at the moment for the 7th time. So I am planning on switching all the way into the darkside of the projector force . The size of the Runco is perfect because is not as big as my other barco 1208s2. it works completely fine and the image I was able to get on it was not bad. So if it was you gentlemen would you use a runco 947 on top of an epson 8350? If yes, why? if not, why? I am totally sick and tired of the issues with my digital. 7 times in a one year and a half period is enough problems for me. What do you think? Curt and ebrabb I would like your input.

I don't know anything about the Epson, but yes.
NOthing wrong with a 947.. as long as the tubes are in decent shape.

Any other comments will be greatly appreciated. Anyone here with a 7 incher (no pun intended) experiences, with hd and a 7 inch tube machine. I would love some input, Thanks

To add: The 947 and other late model BArco 70X series use the P16 tubes. They are actually closer to 8" tube WRT surface area, and are the sharpest and brightest tubes out there as far as ES sets go. (1000 lumens)

EM focus (1208)to ES focus is a pretty big step down, about 20% softer than the 1208 assuming both machines are dialed in to their full capacity.
If that's not a critical parameter to you then no problemo

I don't see the Barco 700's ever using P16's
| Quote: | In 1992 to 1994 Barco introduced the 700 and 701. These were primarily designed for the home market as the case was small and very streamlined looking.
The 70x series started with the Barco Vision and Data 700 models. These sets used Sony SD 187 tubes that are also found in the Electrohome ECP projectors, some Sony 10XX series and the Barco 400, 500 and 600’s. The tubes are ES focusing (on all Barco 70X series) and produce 600 lumens. The Barco Vision only scans to 36 Khz The Data version scans to 50 Khz.
The 701 set is a bit newer than the 700, and uses the later model Sony 07MS tubes that put out 750 lumens, and are a bit sharper than the older SD tubes. The component layout of the 701 is similar to the 700 and some boards are interchangeable between those two sets.
The Barco Vision and Data 701s sets came after the 701. The difference here is that the 701s sets used Toshiba tubes that put out 1000 lumens, quite bright for such a small chassis. The Toshiba tubes also can be rebuilt, the older Sony tubes cannot. The circuit changed slightly from the 701 sets, and the 701s can accept a component input without the use of a transcoder.
The 708 is the latest version in the 70X series with some upgrades to the chassis. It's also about 2 years newer than the 701s. The 708 has some circuit modifications done to make the chassis more reliable. The 708 also added the IRIS auto convergence camera as an option. The Data 708 also increased the max H scan frequency to 69 Khz.
The Cine 7 replaced the 708 in about 1998. Again, minor circuit changes were made, and used a slightly better version of the original Toshiba tube made by MEC. The MEC tube is more expensive than the Toshiba tubes, but held the focusing ability for a longer period of time. |

Is size the biggest reason you want to go with the Runco? They are bigger, but I think you should look at an 8" LC like a XG or G70.
As for digital, I have heard of people having a lot of issues with Epson. Fortunately they do take care of the problems. I don't personally know of anyone that has had issues with JVC. I know they have them, but they seem to be a little better built.

Damn, I write well!
Minor change: The later 708s used the MEC tubes as well. THe earlier ones used the 180 Toshiba tubes that were a bit less bright and definitely less sharp.

The only issue holding back these sets is streaking...these barco's seem to all do it..some more than others.
If this could be fixed, I'd be ok to run one of these...even with a slightly lesser focus ability.
