I've had my 991 (NEC XG75) for about 15 years, and recently, when I turned it on, it seemed to power up (the fan came on, and I heard the high-voltage sizzle), but the CRTs don't come on at all. In addition, while remote "on" works, the unit won't respond to remote "off" or any other button - it has to be powered off by the power switch on the front of the unit. No error code, unless 00 counts.

The unit did come up for a short time for a day, long enough to see that the red gun wasn't aligned correctly, but since then, nada.

Any ideas on what I can do to diagnose this further?

Really, rodmonkey was the best user name you could come up with? Laughing

Take a look into the lenses with a flash light just to be sure you don't have a broken tube.....

This could be a system board issue. COuld be a snapped neck on a tube, but with the remote not working, I'd suspect the system board. That's in the card cage under the cover, and it slides out easily to be sent to me for testing and repair. PM me and we can discuss further. Also throw your location in your profile, it will help if you need assistance.

Welcome.!

My 991 wouldnt respond to the remote after it was turned on when there was a HV board issue. It varied from a squeal and no HV to turning off on its own with no code, to turning off with a code, then back to normal. Hasnt done it since.

I pulled all the boards out at the back and cleaned the connectors, and all the ones on the HV board and its partner beside it, never done it again.

Never know your luck Wink

Whoops! Too few posts, so PM'ing is disabled for me!

I assume this is the board on the hinged cage that drops down?

Since there's a possibility that I'll end up send the board to Curt anyway, definitely worth a try. Thanks!

Yes, there's a white sticker under the cover that indicates which one it is. It's the one that the back LED and buttons connect to. Post twice more in this thread, and you can PM me. Or email me at curtpalme at shaw.ca.
