Delima....

helping a friend. He has a 1208s/2 with badly burnt PT18-205's. Getting a BD808s later tonight with excellent tubes. Would you put the 180DVB22 tubes into the 1208 or just use the 808s as it is? And can you upgrade any parts in the 808S to bring it up to Graphics grade or even Cine8 grade from the data version? My feeling is if we move the tubes over to the 1208, There isn't too much to worry about. But I don't know....opinions?!?!?!

The 808 is a smaller set and has lower bandwidth than the 1208. THe tubes are a bit lower end than the PT18 tubes. WHat the D808s lacks most of all is the SCheimpflug adjustments that the 1208 has. I believe the tube/lens brackets can be swapped from the 1208 to the 808. I'd do that and call it a day. Or put them in the 1208. Either way, you'll get a good set.

As Curt said, I'd only add that the M8500 is equipped with the 180DMB22 tubes which are very similar to the DVBs, and Marqee guys are usually very proud of their M8500s 1080p ability, so it's not bad tube. In the other hand I've seen PT18-224s in a BG808 with the 75MHz neck boards, and was amazingly sharp at 1080p.

I'd put the tubes in the the 1208s/2. The 1208s/2 has a better video path and fan wise is quieter. The front fan and the middle back fan in the 808 are quite a bit nosier than the 120x series. I have had a 1208, 1208s/2, 808s Data, 808 Data and now a Runco 1100 (more or less a 1209s) on my ceiling so I have had experience with many different iterations of these Barcos. Also I find the 180DVBs quite a bit less sharp than the PT18/P16s. I was never satisfied with my 180DVBs at 1080p obviously other folks have a different opinion though. Until I went to a 9" the BIGGEST single performance upgrade I ever did was going from low hour 180DVBs to new P16s in my Barco 808s Data.

In my experience the HD-8 lenses used in the BD808 are not very good. The color filtered HD-144's were much sharper edge to edge. I agree I would put the tubes in the 1208s and use color filtered HD-144 or 145 lenses.

This is the plan.
