so what happens when you play a 3D disc in a non 3D player? my experience has been previously that i have been given an option to watch the disc in 2d, however, with the new remake of "A Better Tomorrow" my player boots the disc, then stops...

any ideas?

Not all 3D discs contain both the 2D and 3D playlists. About half the 3D discs out cannot be played in 2D.

+1

A disc that is only 3D will not play even in a Blu-ray player that does not support 3D.
As well, if you do have a Blu-ray player that supports 3D (like a PS3), it will refuse to play 3D discs unless the whole signal chain is 3D compatible.

Hmm, shooting themselves in the foot aren't they? Or do they just include a separate 2D disk?

Normally there's 2 versions of a movie:

2D only
2D + 3D on separate discs usually (usually a few dollars more)

I don't think I've ever seen a Blu-ray box with 3D only but then I've never looked that closely.
