|
|
Hi everybody,
I can hardly move the focus of one of my HD-10GT17 lenses anymore. It's the adjustment of the main focus (knob closest to the tube). The edge focus works smoothly. I had to put so much force on the knob in order to move the focus that it came off (but I can still screw it back in). Can I open the lens up without any problem and put in some grease or would it then be hard to put it together again?
Does anybody had the same problem?
Regards,
Ron.

Hello
Sure, open it up. You may have some grit that got in there. Clean it out, maybe get some extra fine sandpaper and take a little metal off of the barrel, a thousandth of an inch.

The only thing you want to take apart is the outer shell. Remove the two pins the knobs screw onto. Their square on top so you can carefully use a pair of pliers.

I've made pictures but they will come tomorrow. it didn't work by the way. I can still hardly move the center focus. I wander if the previous owner didn't drop the lens and that it's slightly oval now. I don't want to grind to much because then the nice black finnish will be gone. I've used 600 waterproof sanding paper.
regards,
Ron.

I have had lenses seize up that don't recover, but a tiny bit of silicone grease or similar (automotive grease works as well) does help a lot.

Hi Curt,
I've put in some grease (vaseline) But it doesn't help much. I can move the lens by moving the corner focus ring to it's end and then the center focus will turn aswell. Maybe I'll give it another try.
As promised some pictures.
Maybe the grease I've used is not so good
