I thought the first season was excellent series. Haven't watched the second season yet as I'm recording them all first then I'll watch them when I want.

It is a well written fantasy genre. Much better than LOTR movies and more interesting for a broader range of audience. It deals with politics and social aspects of a created medieval like world. It is a deep ongoing story that is very compelling.

While I wouldn't say I think it's better than LOTR this is by far my favorite show on TV. Craig is right that it focuses more on the politics however there are some mystical aspects that make there way into the plot line as well. IMO, good an evil are not so clearly delineated across the character spectrum and thus the perspective of the individual characters gives great depth to the story.

This is precisely the story design element that I really like about one of my favorite shows in years, Sons of Anarchy (FX Network). They're bad guys who are often good and good guys who are often bad. Similar element in Sopranos, too.

Craig, if you enjoyed Sopranos, and you think you might find the whole "biker gang" thing interesting, you'll probably like SoA. My wife and I really like the bad-ass biker genre, so it was right up our alley. It's pretty much Sopranos, but bad-ass bikers instead of Italian mafia. Good actors, great music, really good character development and writing.

I thought folks were watching GoT because of the sex, violence and nudity.

Well that doesn't hurt either
I was expecting more battles this season considering the kingdoms are at war. I'd like to see JL out of jail and back in action. Since I understand the show has deviated from the book it will be interesting to see where they take us in the remaining 2 epsiodes.

Well, after seeing this, looks like another program I need to catch up on.
After Craig got us hooked on Dexter which is years old now, we have so much catching up to do it is not funny! Next is BSG!
As always, I am a day late and a dollar short..........

If by BSG you mean Battle Star Galactica (the new series) that is one of the best shows ever. Fascinating look at how people respond in the face of annihilation and the complex/difficult choices that must be made. In the last respect it is similar to GOT. BSG ran just over 100 episodes, so it never got stale at any point in the story line.

Three words.... t*ts, Violence and Midgets! what else does a man need in a TV series. It's a "Perfect Storm" so to speak!
The first season was awesome! The second season is starting to get better again. A few episodes concentrated on character development and plot building. Still worth a watch IMHO.

Throw Breaking Bad on your list as well, I enjoyed Dexter but it lost some steam after the first season. Breaking Bad gives you a healthy dose of middle age existentialism, morality, conniving and good old gratuitous violence

See, I thought BB was ok, but some of the plot holes really got to me... I watched it all though.

watched the first 5 episodes of GOT sunday night. It's pretty good, not great but good. 4 out of 5 stars so far. I just didn't see anything in terms of idea's or concepts that were really fresh or new in terms of characters, plot, etc. The king reminds me of Henry the 8th, Eddar Stark (shawn bean) and the Northern kingdom is very much like Gondor in LOTR. Many of the other characters can also be compared to others story lines. I do like the fact that you don't really know who is good or bad and like someone mentioned most people are both. I think a story like this can take a long time to really develop, like Firefly which Fox f*ck*** up just as it started to get really good.
Still I'm glad to have it for less than 50 bucks, hard to find really and most stores were sold out.

GOT is a funny series really. Lots of stuff happens but at the same time it feels as though nothing ever happens. Season two is pretty good as well. I am fortunate to have the original 1080i 60Hz broadcast copies uncompressed

Thanks for this recommendation! My wife and I have almost finished season three as of last night. At the beginning of season one we really weren't sure about SOA, but after about six episodes they started pulling it together. It's not my favorite series, but we do enjoy it quite a bit. Season four comes to BD in about five weeks I think.
Dexter season six comes out in about a month... lots to watch.
Thanks again
