I couldn't find anything on AVS archives or here, except this suggestion from Curt on a similar problem. Plainly asked, can an ancient Dallas chip render an ECP dead-like as opposed to just causing memory settings to be lost?
Here's my motivation to ask:
As part of another deal, I got* a 4100 chassis with a supposedly-dead HVPS and purported-to-be-good HVPS replacement. I am afraid to try an unknown HVPS in my good 4500 chassis OR my good LVPS/HVPS assembly in this unknown 4100 chassis. I fear either way I might (however unlikely) ruin my good chassis or good power supplies somehow.
I've reseated all the boards in the 4100, checked the two fuses by the power plug and the internal slow-blow fuse on the PEM, and even checked the HVPS internal fuse. The 4100's Ready light comes on green, but NO other lights are on and it is completely unresponsive. Seems like the low voltage indicators should come on if this is just a case of something telling the HVPS to shut down, but thought I'd check on the Dallas chip before I presume this is a bad LVPS.
Apart from doing these tests, any diagnostic suggestions?
thanks,
Matt
*This does not count as hoarding (yet)! If they are good, I will only keep the power supplies and will give away or trash the rest.

THe HVPS are completely standalone, a bad one won't fry your good set.
You've done about all you can with the dead set I think. It's either the LVPS or the Dallas chip........ or something else.
(but the first two would be the most likely.)
