I'd forget all of that for now. Get yourself a VGA to 5 BNC cable (should be $10 on eBay), and connect a PC computer to the RGBHV inputs. Set the computer to something like 1024 X 768, and learn how to use the set. Download the manual from here if you don't have it, and it MUST be read all the way though, If you do not enter a signal for example into memory, you'll lose all your setup when shutting the set down.

There's a learning curve, but if it truly only has 1900 hours on it, it should be in decent shape. Post away as you go along if you have questions.
Most likely you'll need that cable for the transcoder as well.

IIRC, the default input when you turn on the PJ is the RGB. That's part of the reason Curt is suggesting you start there. Try pressing CTRL+1, 2, or 3 for the video inputs (assuming you have a remote). Another way is to press the LIST key but the list entries will depend on the inputs set by the previous owner. Otherwise there is a button on the back of the PJ that brings up a menu to select the input.

Post a link for the VAS transcoder. It's not one I've heard of before. You really should get a Moome external box, so you can tie the HDMI output to the projector, component signals are more or less obsolete at this point. But, since you've got the transcoder, you can use that.
THe reason I suggested the computer to start is because that way we'll know the projector is working properly. Use the computer first, then switch to the transcoder.
Oh, and put up a separate post looking for someone in Jersey. You might find someone here.

thank you I will get the cable for the computer . I do have the 2 remotes the user and master
I did have someone who I thought knew something and all of the imputs were deleted so the list is now blank
except where i tried to add an imput through video port
I was told to get the transponder and got this one but still having trouble trying to set up an imput
I am not familiar with rgb imputs as I have another projector set up and thats by s video no problem just wanted a different projector
the other is a sony and no problems just looking at the options
this is my 4th projector the others are all sony's crt I love the crts

Keep in mind that the PG+ is approaching 20 years old. If the unit dumped the memory, then your system board might have issues. That's pretty common for the PG sets. HTe NEC will be sharper than the ES focusing Sonys, but they do have more problems than the slightly older Sony 12XX sets at this point. Post a link to that transcoder, so I can see what you're trying to connect.

I am not familiar with rgb imputs | If it's something you bought off the internet it will be HDCP protected and will not work unless it see's an HDCP device on the other end. no CRT PJ will do this, you have to buy a moome or Fury.

the other is a sony and no problems | If you send S-video = 480i, to the NEC you will be throwing away 80% of the machines potential. Get a Moome box, not cheap but well worth the money

Tom | I just helped a friend set up a 6PGXw with Moome external box transcoding 720P. It was worth every penny, picture is fantastic.
