|
|
Hi everyone, i just set up the Sherwood turntable, its a PM-9805, seems to have great sound however there is bugger all bass and loads of treble...
Its plugged into a Harman/Kardon AVR347 receiver, im getting a fair amount of volume, not alot, but a fair amount.
The H/K has no phono input, will this be an issue?
I kinda remember this rig having rather great deep bass when it was plugged into the Sherwood amp...
Thanks everyone

When you say the HK has no phono input, does that mean you're running the output from the TT directly to a normal RCA input on your receiver with no phono pre-amp in the mix? If so, that's what's causing your low volume and bass/treble problems.

What ever came with it, and it is still in there from last time it was used with the Sherwood amp, it was installed at the factory, so its never been touched. I can see it is adjustable though, but what does that do??
You may have to explain sibilance to me abit more in detail, ive got no idea what that is.

Yeah ive tried it in the Tape, CD, and Video 4 inputs, and it makes no difference obviously. No preamp.
Never used a preamp on the Sherwood amp either, but it was into a phono input there. I didnt know there was a difference til tonight.
The bass is low and has no kick, like as if the subs are both turned off ( but they are working, just not getting enough signal ). The treble is a little on the high side compared to where i think it should be.

I didn't know there was a difference until recently either - but that's definitely your problem. Basically you either need to use a phono input, or if you don't have one you have to use an external RIAA phono preamp. Here's a primer on why:

I purchased a pre-amp from that site for my mom's new Music Hall 5 TT setup, and it works and sounds great. She's super happy with her setup.

Glad you are enjoying your setup again
My recent experience with the vinyl setup that I put together for my mom has me seriously considering a TT at my place as well. I own zero vinyl but after listening to some new pressings at my mom's I'm sold!
